During his working program in Binh Thuan, on the morning of June 17, President Vo Van Thuong attended the flag-raising ceremony at the National Sovereignty Flagpole on Phu Quy Island - a remote island district of Binh Thuan Province, 56 nautical miles southeast of Phan Thiet City.

After the flag-raising ceremony, the President and the delegation planted the banyan tree - a tree symbolizing the spirit, strong vitality and complete love for the Fatherland and the homeland's sea and islands.

Also at Phu Quy island district, President Vo Van Thuong and the delegation visited, presented gifts and 1,000 national flags to fishermen of the island district.

The President kindly inquired about people's living conditions, seafood exploitation and fishing, and advised them to always pay attention to ensuring safety, operating in permitted fishing grounds, strictly complying with international law and Vietnamese law on seafood exploitation, especially combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Visiting and presenting gifts to officers and soldiers of Radar Station 55 (Regiment 292, Division 377, Air Defense - Air Force), stationed on Phu Quy Island, President Vo Van Thuong asked officers and soldiers of Radar Station 55 to firmly stand at the island border and firmly manage the airspace and sea of ​​the Fatherland.

Visiting, presenting gifts and talking to the Party Committee, government, army and people of Phu Quy island district, President Vo Van Thuong stated that it is necessary to determine the task of ensuring national defense, security and firmly protecting Phu Quy island as the top priority of the Party Committee, government, army and people of the entire district in parallel with socio-economic development; performing well the task of being a solid rear base, an important transit point for Truong Sa archipelago, DK1 platform and serving fishermen fishing offshore. Therefore, the armed forces stationed on the island must perform well the task of combat readiness training, firmly protecting the airspace, sea, security and order on the island and participating in search and rescue.
