At noon on November 28 (local time), at the Japanese Imperial Palace, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife met with Emperor Naruhito and Empress.
This is the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders in their new positions. The Emperor ascended the throne in October 2019, while President Vo Van Thuong assumed his new position from March 2023.
Emperor Naruhito, when he was still the crown prince, loved Vietnam very much, according to Mr. Nguyen Phu Binh, Vietnamese ambassador to Japan from 2008 to 2011.

After visiting Vietnam in 2009, Mr. Naruhito's family was so impressed and loved him that they accepted an invitation to the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.
"That was also the only time the Japanese Royal Family visited a foreign embassy in this country," Mr. Nguyen Phu Binh shared with Tuoi Tre Online.
Another memory that also shows the affection of the Japanese Royal Family was when a Japanese university organized a conference in 2009 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Hoi An being recognized as a world cultural heritage.
At that time, Mr. Naruhito also attended and stayed until the end of the event before leaving, instead of leaving early, according to Mr. Nguyen Phu Binh.
