President To Lam: Vietnam always gives top priority to relations with Cambodia

According to information from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the meeting between President To Lam and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni took place in an atmosphere of friendship, sincerity, trust and mutual understanding.

Message of President To Lam

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni warmly welcomed and highly appreciated the significance of President To Lam's first state visit to Cambodia in his new position.

The Cambodian leader said that this demonstrates the importance of the Vietnamese Party and State as well as the President himself for the close and trusting relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his belief that the visit of President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation this time will be a new milestone, contributing to further enhancing the good neighborly relationship, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between the two countries.

On this occasion, King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his deep gratitude to the State and people of Vietnam for helping the Cambodian people escape the genocidal regime in the past as well as in the cause of national construction and development today.

He affirmed that he will continue to support the good traditional friendship between the two countries as his father, the late King Norodom Sihanouk, did before.

President To Lam expressed his honor to visit Cambodia in his new position and sincerely thanked King Norodom Sihamoni, senior leaders and Cambodian people for their warm, respectful and friendly welcome.

He also congratulated Cambodia on the important achievements it has made after 20 years of the King's wise reign and expressed his belief that Cambodia will continue to develop strongly, soon achieving the goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.

The Head of State affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and gives top priority to strengthening and developing relations with Cambodia.

Generations of Vietnamese leaders and people always respect, are grateful for and appreciate the good feelings and valuable support and assistance that the late King Norodom Sihanouk, generations of Cambodian leaders and people gave to the country and people of Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence and in the present-day construction and development of the country.

The two leaders expressed their delight that the bilateral cooperation has continued to develop steadily and with trust and close ties between the leaders and people of the two countries, and that trade between the two countries is a bright spot with impressive growth.

On that basis, President To Lam and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni hope that in the coming time, the two sides will increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels.

At the same time, the two countries will promote economic-trade-investment, cultural, scientific-technical cooperation and people-to-people exchange, and effectively resolve outstanding issues in the spirit of neighborly friendship, solidarity and closeness.

The two leaders also affirmed that the traditional friendship, solidarity and mutual assistance between the two countries - which has been painstakingly cultivated with the efforts and blood of previous generations - is a priceless asset that needs to be preserved for future generations.

The two sides affirmed that they will continue to nurture that good relationship, and are determined to further promote extensive propaganda and education for the younger generations of the two countries to understand correctly the solidarity and mutual sacrifice between the two countries and peoples, and continue to promote the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship.

President To Lam conveyed to Cambodian King Norodom Sihamorni the regards and best wishes of health from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of Vietnam.

The Head of State also expressed his wish to welcome the King of Cambodia to visit Vietnam in 2024. The Cambodian leader expressed his gratitude and happily affirmed that he will soon visit Vietnam.

Immediately after the meeting, President To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation visited Queen Mother Norodom Moninieth Sihanouk and respectfully invited the Queen Mother to visit Vietnam soon.

That same evening, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni hosted a solemn reception for President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.
