According to the report of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, there are currently nearly 17 million elderly people nationwide, of whom more than 7 million are still participating in labor, production and business; nearly 750,000 people participate in Party, government, Fatherland Front and grassroots organizations; more than 300,000 people participate in reconciliation and security and order teams in villages.
The Vietnam Association of the Elderly has expanded nearly 7,000 intergenerational self-help clubs, a model that has won the Initiative for a Healthy Aging Asia Award; making positive contributions to the international community in ensuring social security rights, promoting and protecting the rights of the elderly.
In particular, in crime prevention, political system building, and the recent fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the precious image of tens of thousands of dedicated elderly people, sharing the same fate and hardships with the functional forces, propagating and mobilizing people to implement epidemic prevention and control measures; donating to support and help the needy overcome difficulties has left a good impression in the hearts of the people and international friends....

Speaking at the meeting with the President, representatives of the elderly and officials of the Association of the Elderly expressed their honor and joy to meet the President, and stated: Thanks to the attention of the Party and State, the facilitation of agencies, departments, branches and localities, over the past many years, the activities and movements of the elderly have had strong and prosperous developments throughout the country; social security policies for the elderly have been given attention and implemented in real life....
Delegates expressed their hope that the Party, State, ministries and relevant agencies will continue to have policies to further promote the role of the elderly through amending and supplementing legal regulations on the elderly; improving the quality of health care and creating more suitable jobs for the elderly...
At the meeting, President To Lam wished the delegates and all Vietnamese elderly people to always live happily, healthily, and continue to promote the role of the elderly in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The President affirmed that the Vietnamese elderly are still a solid foundation, keeping the country stable and peaceful for sustainable development and progress with the times. For the Party, the elderly are steadfastly loyal, actively contributing to the work of building the Party and the political system to be increasingly clean and strong; for the Fatherland, the elderly preserve the historical and cultural soul, foster an indomitable spirit, and realize the aspiration for national independence associated with socialism.
Reviewing the glorious historical tradition of the nation, we are even more proud of the glorious contributions of our country's elders. The Vietnamese elderly in every historical period have always been worthy of being the pillars of the nation, sacrificing themselves for the country, and are the immortal torch lighting up the spirit of self-reliance, self-reliance, self-strengthening, and national immortality.
Agreeing with the Report of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, President To Lam believes that with their initiative, creativity, and dedication, the elderly will bring revolutionary inspiration, create social influence, promote the activities of the Association of the Elderly to new developments, set an example in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and build a civilized and modern society.
Paying attention to the work of taking care of the health of the elderly, the President noted that the authorities need to continue to have specific activities and policies to improve the quality of health care for the elderly, so that the elderly can live happily, live healthily, and increase their longevity; encourage and guide the elderly to know how to protect and monitor their health.

Referring to the direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 9th Conference of the Central Executive Committee, term XIII: Party committees at all levels need to pay attention to leading and directing the discussion and giving comments on the draft documents of the 14th National Congress of Delegates and the congresses of higher-level Party committees; at the same time, well prepare the reports of the committees, President To Lam suggested: The Central Association of the Elderly should proactively organize theoretical research, summarize practical experiences in accordance with the functions, tasks and characteristics of the Association, contribute intelligence and enthusiasm to give comments on the draft documents of the 14th Congress, the draft report summarizing 40 years of innovation.
At the same time, the Central Committee of the Association of the Elderly continues to pay attention to implementing Conclusion No. 58-KL/TW dated June 23, 2023 of the Secretariat on the organization and operation of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, perfecting the organization of the Association from the central to the grassroots level, ensuring systematicity, consistency, and promoting the strength of great national unity....
According to the President, the Association of the Elderly needs to proactively advise the Central Committee to direct the summary of 30 years of implementing Directive No. 59-CT/TW dated September 27, 1995 of the Secretariat (7th tenure) on elderly care; provide a theoretical and practical basis for the Central Committee to refer to and consider issuing the Party's strategic policy on leadership and direction of elderly work in the new period. Amending the Law on the Elderly in Vietnam and issuing the National Strategy on the Elderly in Vietnam for the period 2030-2050 are also urgent tasks, creating a legal basis for the activities of the Association of the Elderly in Vietnam to meet new requirements, especially in the context of rapid population aging in Vietnam; thereby making practical contributions to Vietnam's commitment to ensuring the rights of the elderly, to progress and equality for humanity.
President To Lam stated: On June 6, 1941, Uncle Ho wrote a letter "Respectfully announcing to compatriots", in June 1941, Uncle Ho wrote a call for solidarity for all seniors; June 6 every year is the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Elderly, and also the Day of the Vietnamese Elderly, to remember his great contributions, and vow to devote all his revolutionary enthusiasm to realizing the will of beloved Uncle Ho.
The President hopes that the elderly will continue to study and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, inspiring future generations to follow in their fathers' footsteps, adding to the golden history of the Vietnamese nation as a cultured, civilized, heroic, rich, beautiful, prosperous and happy nation. The Vietnamese elderly are both an important resource and political force in building and protecting the nation's foundation, and enjoying the fruits and revolutionary values led by the Party....
