President Luong Cuong and President of Peru meet the press

After the end of the talks and the medal awarding ceremony forPresident Luong Cuong, the two leaders of Peru and Vietnam met with the press of both countries to inform about the results of the talks.

According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, at the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, President Luong Cuong led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to pay an official visit to the Republic of Peru and attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2024 Summit Week in Lima from November 12 to 16. On the afternoon of November 13 local time, President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra hosted an official welcoming ceremony for President Luong Cuong at the Casa de Pizarro Presidential Palace according to the protocol for welcoming heads of state. Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, President Luong Cuong and President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra had a private meeting and then led the high-ranking delegations of the two countries to hold talks. On this occasion, the President was also awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Sun of Peru, the highest honor of the Peruvian State, by President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra. After the end of the talks and the medal presentation ceremony for President Luong Cuong, the two leaders of Peru and Vietnam met with the press of the two countries to inform about the results of the talks. Speaking at the press conference, on behalf of the State and people of Peru, President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra warmly welcomed the President and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam to visit Peru and attend the APEC Summit Week 2024, especially the visit taking place right before the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (November 14, 1994 - November 14, 2024). The Peruvian leader affirmed that over the past three decades, the two countries have gradually strengthened their friendship, cooperation and understanding on the basis of consensus on many issues from bilateral to multilateral and to date the two countries have become important partners of each other. President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra said that during the talks with President Luong Cuong, the two sides expressed satisfaction and joy at the good development in the relationship over the past three decades, and agreed to continue to work together to promote and deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The Peruvian leader affirmed that during this visit of the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, the two sides had important and effective exchanges, addressing many bilateral cooperation topics, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. The two leaders also had an open dialogue to seek new directions of cooperation for the benefit of the people of the two countries. For his part, President Luong Cuong said that immediately after arriving in Lima and especially after his talks with President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, he directly witnessed and felt more clearly the beauty of the country, people, hospitality and dynamic development of Peru - a country with a deep cultural history and one of the cradles of human civilization. The President expressed his gratitude to President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, the leaders and people of Peru for the warm, thoughtful and friendly reception, as well as the support that Peruvian friends have always given to Vietnam. Congratulating Peru on assuming the role of Chair of APEC 2024, the President believes that the APEC Summit Week will be successful, contributing to promoting cooperation and connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region and further enhancing Peru's role and position in the international arena.

Announcing the results of the talks, the President said that he and President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra shared very positive assessments of the level and development momentum of the Vietnam-Peru relationship in recent times, noting the increase in high-level dialogue, political trust and breakthrough progress in economic and trade relations. The President said that the two sides need and can do more because the potential and room for economic cooperation are still very large, both in traditional areas such as oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, agriculture, and new areas such as digital transformation, renewable energy, semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence, based on the strengths of the two economies. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) ratified by both countries is an important framework to further strengthen the two economies. The President said that the two sides discussed and agreed on major orientations and measures to further deepen bilateral relations in many areas, including increasing delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, consolidating cooperation mechanisms and legal frameworks, enhancing diplomatic and consular presence, encouraging and facilitating business connections, promoting trade and investment, connecting transportation and logistics; and enhancing cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges. At the same time, the two sides wish to increase exchanges of students, tourists, businessmen and experts between the two countries, enhancing exchanges, cooperation and understanding, thereby consolidating the traditional friendship. The President was pleased to announce that the two sides had agreed to issue a Joint Statement on strengthening Vietnam-Peru relations, saying that the two countries have met all conditions to upgrade relations to a higher level. With high political determination, the two sides will conduct exchanges to soon announce this new partnership framework. The President expressed his belief that the visit would create more momentum for the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, meeting the concerns and interests of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, cooperation, development and integration of the two regions of East Asia and Latin America. The President also respectfully invited President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra to visit Vietnam in 2025, emphasizing that the event would create another historic milestone in the Vietnam-Peru relationship.
