President Luong Cuong receives Ethiopian Prime Minister

On the afternoon of April 16, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong received Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali, who is on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the fourth Summit of the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) from April 14-17.

On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, President Luong Cuong warmly welcomed Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the Ethiopian high-ranking delegation on their first official visit to Vietnam.

The President congratulated the Ethiopian Prime Minister on his successful meetings and talks with Party General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and believed that this official visit would bring the Vietnam-Ethiopia friendship and cooperation to a new page, more substantive and effective, commensurate with the trust and political confidence between the two countries, bringing benefits to the two countries as well as the two regions.

President Luong Cuong expressed his impression of the history of Ethiopia, the oldest independent country in Africa, and highly appreciated the important achievements that Ethiopia has made in recent times, making Ethiopia a bright spot in economic growth for many consecutive years, the largest economy in East Africa and with an increasingly large position and prestige in Africa and the world.

Sharing about the country's situation, President Luong Cuong said that after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, from a country heavily devastated by war, poor, backward and lacking in food, Vietnam has risen to become a developing country with the 32nd largest GDP in the world, among the economies with the highest growth rate in the world, having diplomatic relations with 194 countries. National defense and security have been strengthened, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity have been maintained, and people's lives have been constantly improved.

The President also highlighted Vietnam's determination to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam with the goal of turning Vietnam into a modern industrialized country with high average income by 2030 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam and turning Vietnam into a developed, high-income country by 2045 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister thanked President Luong Cuong, the State and people of Vietnam for the warm, sincere and thoughtful reception given to the Ethiopian high-ranking delegation, emphasizing that Vietnam is a trusted friend of the Ethiopian people.

The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for President Ho Chi Minh, the bravery and resilience of the Vietnamese people, and was impressed by the great and comprehensive achievements that Vietnam has made in socio-economic development as well as enhancing its prestige and position in the international arena.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali informed the President about Ethiopia's socio-economic achievements, emphasizing that this visit aims to affirm the determination of the Ethiopian State and Government in consolidating and developing multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam.

In order to promote the potential and strengths of the two countries, the two leaders agreed to increase delegation exchanges and high-level contacts on all channels, and effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms. President Luong Cuong suggested that relevant agencies of the two countries actively negotiate to soon sign documents, perfect the legal framework, and facilitate bilateral cooperation, especially in potential areas such as agriculture, mining, electronics, telecommunications, and digital transformation.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister highly appreciated Vietnam's strengths in the agricultural sector and expressed his wish that Vietnam would share its experience and support Ethiopia in this field, contributing to ensuring sustainable food security for Ethiopia.

President Luong Cuong welcomed Ethiopian Airlines' plan to launch a new flight route from Addis Ababa to Hanoi next July.

The two leaders agreed to enhance coordination, cooperation and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations and forums of developing countries; and promote relations with important organizations of which both sides are members such as ASEAN and the African Union (AU).

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong asked Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali to convey an invitation to an official visit to Vietnam to Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie.
