On the morning of November 13, Mr. Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and President, visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
Speaking here, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that in the current period, our country is making efforts to realize the aspiration for prosperity and happiness, striving to become a developed country with high income by 2045.
That aspiration and vision can only become a sustainable reality with a foundation of quality science and education.
In which, social sciences and humanities play an important role, because it is the science of humans, studying issues related to humans, helping humans become more excellent, contributing best to development, so that society becomes better and better.
"The strength of a nation does not lie in underground or sea resources, but in high-quality human resources with intelligence, knowledge and dignity," Mr. Thuong emphasized.
The President said that the mission of higher education is not only to impart knowledge and create new knowledge to serve the progress, prosperity and happiness of society, but also to prepare people - the human resources of society - with sufficient qualities and capacity to act, be creative and adapt in a constantly changing, complex and unpredictable world.
"University is a place to discover abilities, nurture values, create a foundation for individuals to develop comprehensively, and best promote potential and creativity.
From here, we will provide society with responsible citizens who love their family, their country, their fellow countrymen, live well and work effectively; experts, scientists, managers, leaders... are the force that brings knowledge, science and culture deeply into society, creating the foundation and driving force for development to effectively serve people and society," the President emphasized.
In the context of rapid and unpredictable changes in the world, region and country, technological revolution and globalization have strongly impacted the development of economy, politics, society, culture, people, natural values and human values.
This gives rise to many new problems, posing new requirements that require social sciences and humanities to keep up, respond well, have the ability to analyze, forecast, explain convincingly and participate in leading and orienting society.

President was moved when visiting his old school
President Vo Van Thuong shared that today he was very happy and moved to visit the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) during the days when the whole country is looking forward to a very important and meaningful event - celebrating Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20.
Mr. Thuong said that Vietnamese Teachers' Day is an opportunity for society to express gratitude to teachers, who play an important role in the career of educating people.
The President shared: "More than 30 years ago, under this school roof, we studied with enthusiastic teachers who always cared about the progress of students.
The extensive knowledge and exemplary personalities of our teachers are shining examples, encouraging us to enter life with many ambitions in the journey of serving society and contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The successes of the student class back then, including me, were partly due to the efforts of our teachers. Every time I return to school, I am moved, excited and proud of the achievements that successive generations of teachers have worked hard to build.

Without timely and effective attention, these basic science fields will be heavily influenced by the market mechanism, and as a result there will be a shortage of human resources to serve the country's sustainable and long-term development.
To ensure fairness in access to higher education, the State needs to conduct research to have appropriate credit loan policies for students, so that they can realize their university dreams, develop their abilities and contribute to the development of the country and society.
