Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung presented a letter fromPresident Luong Cuong to Ms. Amanda Nguyen.
On April 14 (local time), in West Texas (USA), Blue Origin, founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, organized a flight of the New Shepard rocket-ship complex with a crew of 6 women.
The flight, called NS-31, is Blue Origin’s 11th manned spaceflight project. The astronauts selected are outstanding women in many fields, including Amanda Nguyen, founder and CEO of the non -governmental organization RISE.
The New Shepard spacecraft's journey was a success, reaching an altitude of 100km in space and returning safely. After the flight, Amanda Nguyen became the first Vietnamese-American woman to fly into space.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung attended the flight of the New Shepard and presented a letter from President Luong Cuong to Ms. Amanda Nguyen.
In the letter, the President expressed his joy and pride that for the first time a Vietnamese woman flew into space, affirming the talent and intelligence of Vietnamese people in the US and around the world .
The President's letter emphasized that in 2025, Vietnam and the US will celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and in the overall bilateral relationship, Vietnam highly appreciates the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in the US to the development and progress of the US, as well as promoting Vietnam-US cooperation.
The President highly appreciated the cooperation between Ms. Amanda Nguyen and the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC), helping to promote the cooperative relationship between the US and Vietnam.
Ms. Amanda Nguyen was born on October 10, 1991, graduated from Harvard University and interned at NASA in 2013. After that, she worked at the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, then served as deputy White House liaison at the US Department of State.
In November 2014, she founded Rise, a non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting the civil rights of survivors of sexual assault.
In 2019, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to fight for the rights of victims of sexual assault.
