On the afternoon of September 25, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, presented the President's decision to three officers preparing to deploy to peacekeeping missions in the Abyei region and South Sudan.

The President decided to appoint Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen My Hanh (lecturer of the Logistics Academy) to take on the position of senior training officer, UNISFA mission (Abyei region); Major Hoang Van Kien (Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau border gate, Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) to take on the position of military observer, UNMISS mission (South Sudan); Captain Pham Thi Mai Ngan (Institute of Military Social Sciences and Humanities, Academy of Politics) to take on the position of Military Provisions Staff officer, UNISFA mission (Abyei region).

Colonel Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, said that all three officers have approval letters from the United Nations (UN), are confident in their work, and are ready to go on missions.

In the two areas where the three officers will work, there is Field Hospital 2.5 and Engineering Team No. 2, so the three officers will receive good support and assistance from their teammates in the area. Major Hoang Van Kien will leave on September 28, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen My Hanh and Captain Pham Thi Mai Ngan are expected to deploy in early October.

However, Colonel Pham Manh Thang also noted that it is necessary to identify some difficulties in the area such as the security situation still has many unpredictable risks, competition between parties will lead to security and safety risks. Harsh weather and climate conditions, many dangerous epidemics, especially malaria, cholera, Ebola...

Speaking at the assignment, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan emphasized that the three officers receiving the President's decision is a great honor for the individual, family, unit, as well as the Ministry of National Defense. Therefore, the officers need to make the greatest effort, try their best, and have the highest determination to complete the task well.

Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan requested that, due to performing tasks in remote areas with many risks, officers must thoroughly grasp and seriously implement the foreign policy of the Party, State and Army, strictly comply with the discipline of the Vietnam People's Army, regulations of the United Nations and the laws of the host country.

The three officers must always be careful in their words and actions, preserving and building the position and image of Uncle Ho's soldiers.

He noted that when operating in a multinational environment, it is necessary to quickly integrate and demonstrate to international friends the capacity of Vietnamese officers in language mastery, organization, situation handling, and high professionalism in work.

Although they have inherited experience, officers need to be well prepared in terms of ideology and mentality, as well as do a good job of supporting their families. In particular, they must maintain internal solidarity, have a spirit of mutual love, regularly share experiences, exchange, and support each other.

On behalf of the three officers, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen My Hanh said that this was her second time deployed as a senior training staff officer at the Integrated Training Department at the Command Headquarters.

She expressed her determination to successfully and excellently complete the tasks assigned by the UN and the Ministry of National Defense. Strictly comply with military discipline, security and safety regulations of the mission, and the laws of the host country so as not to affect the prestige and image of Vietnam and the Army. Strengthen communication work, contributing to spreading the image of Vietnam and the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new era to international friends.

Vietnam has sent 786 officers and staff to participate in UN peacekeeping activities at 3 missions and the UN Headquarters, including 779 military officers and 7 police officers.

According to the assessment of UN missions and agencies, Vietnamese officers have made great efforts in performing assigned tasks, demonstrating high professionalism and discipline; being creative; leaving many very good impressions on mission leaders, military force commanders and international colleagues with specific, practical and highly humane contributions.
