The above information was announced by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang on the afternoon of July 18. According to Ms. Hang, this is the first time a President of the United Nations General Assembly has visited Vietnam.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized that the visit took place in the context of the Vietnam-United Nations relationship continuing to develop positively after nearly 50 years, becoming increasingly deeper and more effective.

Vietnam is a proactive and active member state, making substantial and extensive contributions to all areas of the United Nations' common activities in peacekeeping, security and development cooperation.
Vietnam has also successfully assumed many important responsibilities at the United Nations, including two terms as a non-permanent member of the Security Council and is currently a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this visit by the President of the United Nations General Assembly will contribute to promoting the cooperation between the two sides to continue to go deeper and more effective.
At the same time, the visit affirms Vietnam's strong commitment to multilateralism, the activities and major priorities of the United Nations and the international community, as well as Vietnam's role as a responsible member of multilateral mechanisms, thereby contributing to international cooperation and solidarity.
During his stay in Vietnam, President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis is expected to hold talks with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, meet with senior leaders and participate in a number of other activities.
