Bar Maih Commune is one of the localities that has done well in converting crop and livestock structures. Accordingly, the commune has focused on orienting people to convert ineffective crop areas to develop long-term industrial crops with high economic value such as coffee, durian, pepper, etc.
In particular, focus on promoting the application of science and technology, production according to standards, with growing area codes, traceability stamps... to increase value per unit area.

In addition to multi-cropping and intercropping to minimize risks, Mr. Dinh Y Vien's family (To Drăh village, Bar Măih commune) is also a pioneer in growing durian trees. Thanks to his diligence in learning from experience as well as applying scientific and technical advances in garden care, nearly 100 durian trees intercropped in his family's coffee garden have grown quite well. He also did the same with more than 1,000 coffee trees and 500 pepper pillars. Thanks to that, the garden's productivity and output are always maintained at a high level.
“To take care of the garden effectively, I often visit and learn from the experiences and techniques of planting and caring for durian, coffee, and pepper from households in the commune and district; at the same time, I take advantage of agricultural waste such as coffee husks, rice husks, etc. combined with biological products to compost fertilizer for plants.
In addition, I apply advanced irrigation technology to ensure the appropriate amount of water for the plants in each stage. Last year, although the durian crop was just starting to yield fruit, it still contributed to increasing the family's total income to 400-500 million VND. This year, durian is flowering and bearing fruit in abundance. If the weather is favorable and prices remain stable, I will have a large additional source of income from this crop," Mr. Vien shared.
Similarly, Mr. Pham Cong Toi’s family (village 5, Ia Pal commune) is also increasingly prosperous after struggling with the “severe disease” of pepper plants. Like many farmers in the area, after the entire pepper acreage died due to the disease in 2016, Mr. Toi’s family’s life encountered countless difficulties.
However, with the determination to start over, he focused on improving the land, growing vegetables and passion fruit to make short-term profits and researching and introducing new plant varieties into production.
In 2020, Mr. Toi and some households in the village cooperated with Truong Xuan Agricultural, Forestry and Service Cooperative (Dak Lak province) to grow Huong Chi longan according to VietGAP standards. At the same time, apply scientific and technical advances to take care of the garden in a sustainable way to improve productivity and quality, meeting the increasing demand of the market.
Mr. Toi excitedly said: “Over 400 Huong Chi longan trees of my family have been harvested for 2 years now, the yield each year is higher than the previous year. Like the last crop, I harvested about 20 tons, with a selling price of 20-25 thousand VND/kg, I made a profit of over 200 million VND. Growing Huong Chi longan according to VietGAP standards has low investment costs, and the output is stable, so my family is very secure.”
