Mr. O'Leary with a "welcome" of cake in Belgium

On September 7, the Daily Mail reported that Michael O'Leary, owner of Ryanair (Ireland), had two pies smeared on his face by environmental activists while he was speaking to the media in Belgium.
The 62-year-old businessman traveled to the Belgian capital Brussels to complain about repeated strikes by air traffic controllers across Europe, which have affected Ryanair.
The trip also comes amid reports of a strike by Ryanair pilots in Belgium. The low-cost airline is Europe's top airline by passenger numbers and just hit a record 18 million in July.
He was giving an interview and standing next to a cardboard cutout of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in front of the European Commission headquarters when a woman dressed in black ran up and shoved a cake in his face.
Mr O'Leary turned and ducked to avoid the attack when another woman ran up behind him, pressed a second cake to the back of his neck and said "stop polluting" the planes. "Welcome to Belgium," the two women said and walked away, before Mr O'Leary said "well done".
The incident did not appear to cause much trouble and the Ryanair boss continued to speak to the media, joking that "I have never had such a warm welcome".
"Unfortunately, they are environmentalists and the ice cream is artificial. I invite customers to Ireland, where the ice cream is better," he said, after asking an assistant to hold up his cake-stained jacket.
Ryanair pilots at Charleroi Airport (Belgium) said they will strike from September 14-15, coinciding with the airline's shareholders' meeting, to protest over pay and working conditions.
