Proactively prevent and control African swine fever

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai has just sent an urgent dispatch to a number of relevant departments and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities in the province, requesting the implementation of Official Dispatch No. 1097/CD-TTg dated November 16, 2023 of the Prime Minister on drastic and synchronous implementation of solutions to prevent and control African swine fever (ASF).

Accordingly, in order to proactively prevent and control ASF in a timely and effective manner, ensuring pork supply in the province in the coming time, especially during the Lunar New Year 2024, the Provincial People's Committee requests the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to strictly implement the contents of Official Dispatch No. 1097/CD-TTg dated November 16, 2023 of the Prime Minister.

Organize inspection and supervision of ASF prevention and control work, strengthen monitoring and grasp disease information in localities with high pig farming density, localities bordering provinces where ASF is occurring...

The Department of Information and Communications coordinates with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and related units to promote propaganda on measures to prevent and control ASF so that people do not panic and proactively apply disease prevention measures according to the instructions of specialized agencies. The Provincial Market Management Department proactively coordinates with related departments and local authorities to strengthen market circulation control, promptly detect and strictly handle cases of trading and transporting pigs and pork products of unknown origin and not yet quarantined to prevent ASF and other animal diseases...

In particular, the People's Committees of localities in the province shall strengthen the direction of inspection, supervision, and early detection of outbreaks of ASF in the area, paying special attention to small-scale livestock households and localities with old outbreaks, in order to detect early, warn and handle thoroughly when new outbreaks appear. Organize the disposal of dead pigs, sick pigs, and pigs suspected of being infected with ASF when directed by provincial-level specialized agencies. Proactively implement policies to support livestock farmers suffering losses due to epidemics in accordance with the provisions of law. Strictly handle cases of buying, selling, transporting sick pigs, and dumping dead pigs that spread disease and pollute the environment...

Previously, the content of Official Dispatch No. 1097/CD-TTg clearly stated that from the beginning of 2023 to now, the whole country has had more than 530 outbreaks of ASF, forcing the destruction of more than 20,000 pigs in 44 provinces and cities, especially in the provinces of Lang Son, Cao Bang, Son La, Quang Binh, Dak Lak... The epidemic has been on the rise since August in many provinces and cities, especially in localities with large herds, negatively affecting the pig farming industry and ensuring food supply.
