At the Conference "New trends in cardiovascular disease treatment 2023", recently organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Can Tho City, Prof. Dr. Truong Quang Binh, Head of the Conference Organizing Committee, expert of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital said: Blood pressure values are very important for each person's health, we must update blood pressure values periodically to have a plan to prevent high blood pressure and detect high blood pressure as early as possible. From there, early treatment will minimize complications of high blood pressure.
According to Professor Truong Quang Binh, people need to proactively monitor their blood pressure, prevent high blood pressure as well as cardiovascular events caused by high blood pressure. Currently, high blood pressure is often called a "silent killer" because it does not cause obvious symptoms in the early stages but damages blood vessels slowly and permanently.
High blood pressure can cause myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction and many other complications such as: myocardial hypertrophy, heart failure, retinal hemorrhage, kidney failure and aortic disease...
Regular blood pressure checks are important, especially for people with risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Each person can proactively detect high blood pressure by measuring their own blood pressure or going to the nearest medical facility. Only one of the two values: systolic blood pressure (top number) from 140 mmHg or higher, diastolic blood pressure (bottom number) from 90 mmHg or higher is considered high blood pressure.
In case of being diagnosed with high blood pressure, the patient needs to comply with the use of medication as prescribed by the doctor and maintain a regular diet, lifestyle, and exercise regimen. Regarding compliance with medication use, the patient only needs to remember to take the medication according to the 3Ds (correct medication prescribed, sufficient dose as prescribed, regularly every day).
Increased walking helps prevent high blood pressure, prevent cardiovascular disease and maintain a healthy heart. |
Patients can be prescribed exercise programs or simply walk continuously for 30 minutes a day, more than 5 days a week to increase blood circulation and support the treatment of high blood pressure.
Doctors recommend that as soon as you detect high blood pressure or have even fleeting symptoms such as: nervousness, palpitations, headaches every morning when waking up... you should go for a check-up for timely diagnosis and treatment.
In particular, people with risk factors such as: having a habit of eating salty foods, little exercise, drinking a lot of alcohol, being stressed often, being old and having a family member with high blood pressure should have regular health check-ups. Prevention is better than cure and you should proactively recognize the risk factors of high blood pressure to have a plan to eliminate these risk factors as soon as possible.
Previously, on May 13, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital organized the program "Walk for a healthy heart for the second time" with the message: Remember your blood pressure as you remember your age. This is an activity in response to World Hypertension Day on May 17 and World Blood Pressure Month, helping to raise public awareness in preventing hypertension, preventing cardiovascular diseases and maintaining a healthy heart.
