In recent years, the Military Technical Academy (KTQS) has proactively taken preventive measures, coordinated with the Department of Psychiatry (103 Military Hospital, Military Medical Academy) to effectively screen and treat patients with symptoms of psychological disorders at the grassroots level.
Talking to us, Lieutenant Colonel, Specialist Doctor I (BSCK I) Ngo Viet Phuong, Head of Military Medicine (Logistics Department, Military Technical Academy) informed: In 2022, the Academy coordinated with Military Hospital 103 (Military Medical Academy) to organize screening for nearly 2,200 people, detecting 14 cases with symptoms of mental disorders.
Faced with this situation, the Military Medical Department consulted with the Logistics Department, requesting the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Academy to lead and direct agencies and units to pay attention to monitoring and managing troops, and to grasp the thoughts and circumstances of cadres, lecturers, students, workers, employees, and soldiers.

The Military Medical Department directs military medical units to guide, inspect, supervise, and screen suspected cases of mental disorders and implement measures to manage, monitor, and treat people with symptoms of mental disorders at the unit level.
Analysis of cases with symptoms of mental disorders detected through screening shows that: The most affected subjects are students (accounting for 71.42%), followed by employees (accounting for 21.42%), and other subjects account for 7.16%.
The causes of students suffering from psychological disorders are due to stressful and high-intensity study and training; poor experience in dealing with psychological problems when changing living environments; easily affected by social factors, the internet; post-Covid-19 issues...
To treat and resolve cases of patients with mental disorders, the military medical units manage and keep a logbook. Every month, they are sent for examination and medication at the Department of Psychiatry (103 Military Hospital). In severe cases, the Military Medical Department creates a file and sends it to the Ministry of National Defense's Mental Health Assessment Council for assessment and resolution according to regulations.
Psychological disorders have negative impacts not only on the patient but also reduce learning and work performance, reduce quality of life, and more dangerously, lead to uncontrolled behaviors, greatly affecting the family, unit and social community.
According to Dr. Ngo Viet Phuong, signs and symptoms of people with mental disorders need to be detected early and closely monitored at agencies and units. Symptoms of mental disorders are manifested in behaviors: lack of interest or enjoyment in work, isolation from society and friends; reduced communication, prolonged time alone; hallucinations, often self-aggrandizement, anxiety, depression, eating disorders...
Proactive early detection and timely, active treatment for patients with psychological disorders is an effective solution that the Military Technical Academy has implemented in recent years. Every year, the Military Medical Department consults with superiors to develop a plan for periodic health examinations for all subjects; coordinates with Military Hospital 354 to organize good health examinations for students upon admission and new soldiers upon training and working at the Academy.
Military medical staff of agencies and units help Party committees and commanders regularly grasp the health status of cadres, lecturers, students, staff, soldiers, and workers; strictly maintain medical monitoring, reporting, inspection, and control regimes, especially timely reporting when detecting cases with bad health signs. Agencies and units pay attention to doing a good job of disease prevention, creating a healthy living environment, and a happy atmosphere to limit and eliminate psychological trauma.
Party committees and commanders at all levels in the Academy must be united, democratic, build close relationships, understanding, sympathy and mutual support; grasp the army's ideology; pay attention to and understand the economic situation and family life of cadres and employees so that when an incident occurs, it can be promptly resolved.
Dr. Ngo Viet Phuong said: Most cases of psychological disorders, in addition to pressure from studying and working, are also due to conflicts in the family or being pampered, so when changing living environments, they are susceptible to psychological trauma.
For unfortunate cases of illness, the Academy's military medical staff regularly checks, monitors, records, and medical records; contacts and coordinates with the Department of Psychiatry (103 Military Hospital) for examination and treatment. Thanks to the efforts, proactive screening, management, and active treatment, cases of mental disorders do not become more severe and the number of new cases at the Academy is gradually limited and reduced.
That result contributed to helping the Military Medical Department of the Academy successfully complete its tasks, being one of the typical units in implementing the emulation movement "Building 5 good military medical units" and "Military medical soldiers follow Uncle Ho's teachings"; the Military Technical Academy's Infirmary was awarded a certificate of merit by the Director of the General Department of Logistics.
