Authorities read the decision to prosecute and temporarily arrest Ho Viet Dung for theft of property.

Many cases are handled

Early last April, Mr. Dang Ngoc H. drove his motorbike to the park on the banks of the Huong River on Le Duan Street to exercise. Due to his carelessness and negligence, Mr. H. left a handbag containing 52.5 million VND in cash in the trunk of his motorbike.

At around 6 p.m. the same day, Ho Viet Dung (born in 1988, residing in Vy Da ward, Thuan Hoa district) discovered that the motorbike was unattended, so he opened the trunk and stole the entire amount of 52.5 million VND.

Immediately upon receiving the report, Thuan Hoa Ward Police (Phu Xuan District) quickly began investigating, clarifying Ho Viet Dung's act of property theft and confiscating the stolen money.

This is not the only case where thieves take advantage of people’s subjectivity and negligence in protecting their property to commit theft. Since the beginning of the year, dozens of property theft cases have been investigated and clarified by the city police force. In particular, the main cases are motorbike theft, breaking into people’s houses, kiosks, etc. to steal property.

Notably, the arrest of a group of subjects specializing in stealing motorbikes and property at business establishments in the area by officers and soldiers of the Criminal Police Department, Hue City Police in mid-March 2025.

From the source of information reporting the related crime, the Criminal Police Department quickly verified and investigated the case and discovered a group of 10 suspicious subjects.

Due to not having a motorbike to travel and lack of money to spend, this group took advantage of people's negligence in managing motorbikes and property to steal. The group committed 15 thefts at business establishments in the city. At the time of arrest, the group was holding the stolen property including 2 laptops and 7 motorbikes.

In Phong Dien town, Phong Thu ward police also arrested a group of teenagers for theft last March. Through investigation, it was found that the group of 4 were minors and frequently committed thefts at many coffee shops at night in the town. In addition, the group also confessed to committing several other thefts in Thuan Hoa district.

Form the habit of self-protection of assets

In a recent press conference, Colonel Hoang Van Thanh, Deputy Director of Hue City Police, said that in reality, people’s negligence and subjectivity in protecting their personal property is becoming more and more common in the city. In particular, many households still maintain the habit of parking their motorbikes overnight on the sidewalk or in public places without anyone watching.

Realizing that property theft crimes are becoming more and more sophisticated and cunning, the Hue City Police Department has directed local police to increase patrols and close off areas so that these criminals do not have a chance to operate.

In addition, the police of communes, wards and towns also promote propaganda work in direct and online forms on social networks and mass media to raise public awareness.

To proactively prevent property theft crimes, the Criminal Police Department, Hue City Police recommends that people take a number of measures such as: Checking and reinforcing gate and door systems, using safe locks; not leaving valuable assets in shops and offices when there is no night security; families when having parties should be careful to keep valuable assets carefully...

In recent times, criminals have been committing crimes in many ways, with increasingly sophisticated and reckless activities. In addition to the efforts of the police force in maintaining security and order, more than anyone else, the people themselves need to be vigilant in protecting their own property and actively participate in reporting crimes. When theft or suspicious signs occur, people need to immediately report to the nearest police station.
