Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) said that in 2025, the commercial electricity target will reach 300.9 billion kWh, with a reserve plan of up to 305.6 billion kWh to meet the high growth scenario.
The maximum load capacity of the entire system is expected to reach 54,510 MW, an increase of 11.35% compared to 2024.
According to EVN Deputy General Director Vo Quang Lam, in recent days, the whole country, especially the North and South, has been experiencing a heat wave with temperatures in many localities reaching 38 degrees Celsius. This has led to a surge in electricity demand, especially for household use and cooling.
"This is a significant pressure on the national power system, from generation, transmission to distribution. To ensure electricity for the hot season, we cannot rely solely on the efforts of the Electricity industry, but need the support, sharing and close coordination of people, businesses and the whole society," Mr. Vo Quang Lam emphasized.
EVN said that the cool weather at the beginning of the year caused the load to increase slowly. In the first quarter of 2025, commercial electricity output reached 63.645 billion kWh, an increase of about 4.43% over the same period last year, but the load trend continued to increase in the upcoming hot season.
Faced with this situation, EVN has proactively developed power supply scenarios suitable for all situations - even when electricity demand grows by 12-13% to ensure national energy security.
Specifically, EVN is currently implementing 10 power source projects, with a total capacity of about 8,800 MW. In 2025, EVN will focus on completing key projects such as: Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion, Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant, Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV line, Nho Quan - Phu Ly - Thuong Tin 500/220kV line, national grid power supply line for Con Dao district...
Faced with forecasts of high load increases during the hot months of 2025, EVN and its units have proactively implemented load management programs: load shifting, electricity saving; mobilizing customers to accompany the electricity industry in using electricity safely, economically and efficiently.
