Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Ha, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of Phu Yen District People's Committee, said: The district has directed communes and towns to develop appropriate forest fire prevention and fighting plans, strengthen inspections, and promptly detect forest fires. At the same time, communes regularly announce weather conditions via loudspeakers, so that people know and avoid burning fields when temperatures are high and there are strong winds. Communes also instruct people to burn fields according to regulations and build firebreaks.
In addition, the District People's Committee has implemented the "4 on-site" motto in forest fire prevention and control work, directing communes and towns to strengthen more than 3,000 members of forest protection teams. The forces are mainly youth and militia, tasked with patrolling to protect forests and being ready to participate in fire fighting. The teams are fully equipped with fire prevention and fighting equipment. At the same time, the district has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to raise awareness of forest fire prevention and fighting to minimize the risk of fire.
Along with that, the District Forest Protection Department coordinated with communes and towns to organize propaganda conferences on forest protection and forest fire prevention and control, signed commitments on forest protection and forest fire prevention and control with 100% of village chiefs, sub-district chiefs and chairmen of commune and town People's Committees. At the same time, the unit has zoned forest areas at high risk of fire, developed appropriate forest fire prevention and control plans. Ready to mobilize local forces, coordinate with communes, respond to forest fires; use modern equipment such as digital maps, locators to promptly detect and handle fire spots.
At the end of March, in the border area between Gia Phu and Suoi To communes, a small forest fire broke out, damaging nearly 1,000 m² of reed and sedge forest. The cause was due to people burning fields in hot and windy weather. Mr. Lo Van Kien, a member of the forest protection team of Nhot 2 village, Gia Phu commune, said: When the fire was discovered, we immediately notified the commune People's Committee and mobilized firefighting forces. The forest protection team quickly created a firebreak, preventing the fire from spreading, and promptly extinguished the fire.
Gia Phu commune has nearly 1,500 hectares of protected forest, bordering Suoi To and Suoi Bau communes. Mr. Ngo Duc Duong, Secretary of the commune Party Committee, said that the recent forest fire was a lesson in forest protection. Currently, the commune is closely coordinating with neighboring communes to implement forest fire prevention and control measures, such as propaganda and guidance for people to build firebreaks when burning fields, and to handle vegetation after the dry season. Village Party cells in the commune regularly educate party members to raise awareness of forest protection, and propagate people to comply with forest protection regulations in the village's covenants and conventions.
Currently, in the dry season, it is forecasted that the hot and dry weather will continue to occur. Along with the proactiveness of all levels and sectors in Phu Yen district, people also need to further raise awareness of protection, fire prevention and fighting, contributing to preventing forest fires, protecting existing forest areas and increasing forest cover.
