YONHAP. South Korea is asking the United States to reconsider its new subsidy criteria for semiconductor makers amid concerns about the impact of the new rules on its companies.
TEMPO. Indonesia and Malaysia signed two memorandums of understanding in the defense industry on the sidelines of the 16th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) in Malaysia.
KHMER TIMES. Cambodian authorities have issued a seasonal fishing ban in 2023 for the entire fishing area, lasting for 4 months of the rainy season with specific time frames for fishing grounds and fishing areas nationwide.
CNA. Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has ordered an investigation into the lease of a prime state-owned house involving two ministers following questions from the opposition.
WMO. Bangladesh has recorded the highest number of deaths due to extreme weather and climate change in Asia, with 520,758 deaths linked to 281 natural disasters from 1970-2021, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

REUTERS. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Ukraine would not be able to join the military alliance as long as the conflict in the Eastern European country continued.
TASS. The Generalissimo Suvorov, the Russian Navy's newest nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, will arrive at its permanent base on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Pacific Ocean in August.
SWISS INFO. The Swiss government has announced that from next year it will ban advertising of tobacco and e-cigarette products aimed at young people, following a referendum last year.
REUTERS. Italian police announced that they had just broken up a ring of thieves and traffickers of ancient Greek and Roman antiquities, arresting 16 people and confiscating more than 3,500 antiquities.

AFP. Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou appointed an interim prime minister to form a government, temporarily leading the country to a second election on June 25.

REUTERS. Judge Juan Merchan of the Criminal Court in Manhattan, New York announced that Mr. Donald Trump will be tried in New York on March 25, 2024, meaning that the former US President will have to go to court when the campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 is at its peak.
DAILY SUN. The debate in the US over the debt ceiling is “unnecessary” for the world economy and should be resolved soon, according to International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
AP. The US government will seek workers' opinions on how to use artificial intelligence (AI), thereby monitoring and adjusting accordingly to deal with potential risks in the future.
PRENSA LATINA. The third Cuba-EU Joint Council will meet in Havana on May 26 to assess the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (PDCA) signed in 2016.
BLOOMBERG. Apple Inc. has signed a new multi-year, multi-billion dollar deal with semiconductor giant Broadcom to supply US-made components.

AFRICA NEWS. Cameroonian authorities say separatists in the country's English-speaking west have kidnapped about 30 women who had spoken out against the violence.
UNICEF. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warns that children in the Horn of Africa are facing an unprecedented crisis of hunger, displacement, water shortages and insecurity.
SPUTNIK. Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that Russia pursues a policy of supporting African countries because it considers them one of the centers of the emerging world order, and is ready to participate in the fight against neo-colonialism.
NAIROBI NEWS. The 7th ID4Africa Expanded General Assembly (AGM) took place from 23-25 May in Nairobi, Kenya to discuss ways to accelerate the transition to a national digital identity card (ID).
UPDF. Soldiers from 10 East African countries began a two-week training course at the United Nations Regional Service Center in Entebbe, Uganda.
EGYPT NEWS. Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has called on multilateral financial institutions to review criteria and requirements to facilitate countries receiving concessional loans.
