On June 18, the leader of Bao Loc City (Lam Dong) said that on the night of June 17, heavy rain caused the embankment of a corrugated iron factory in Anh Mai 1 village, Loc Chau commune (Bao Loc City) to collapse, burying a sleeping couple. As a result, the husband died and the wife was injured.
According to initial information, the landslide occurred at around 11:00 p.m. on June 17 at the corrugated iron rolling workshop of Mr. Nghiem Dinh Q.'s family (686 National Highway 20, Anh Mai 1 Village, Loc Chau Commune, Bao Loc City).
The landslide caused a mass of rock and soil about 8 meters high from the embankment behind to collapse onto two bedrooms of the house below. The rock and soil completely buried the room where Mr. Nghiem Dinh Q. (40 years old) and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan (35 years old) were sleeping.
Upon receiving the news, rescue forces including police, army, and militia quickly arrived to coordinate with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team - Area 3 of Lam Dong Police (located in Bao Loc City) to deploy rescue measures.
After nearly 2 hours of effort, the authorities were able to get the two victims out. However, Mr. Q. died, while Ms. Lan was slightly injured and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Mr. Q. and his wife's 2 children and Ms. Lan's mother, who were sleeping in the next room, were able to escape safely.
The house where the landslide occurred was rented by Mr. Q. and his wife as a corrugated iron rolling workshop for many years.
The landslide, which was over 40 meters long and about 8 meters high, also collapsed and buried many properties in 2 karaoke rooms of Mr. Truong Dang's family, next to Mr. Q's house. The landslide also affected about 15 households in the area. Of these, 5 households were seriously threatened, causing their houses and properties to be at risk of collapsing at any time.
Through the actual inspection, the leaders of Bao Loc City directed the functional agencies to coordinate with the People's Committee of Loc Chau commune to quickly mobilize households in the dangerous area to temporarily evacuate to a safe area; at the same time, deploy measures to overcome the landslide incident, coordinate to deploy measures to assess the level of danger to delimit the area and deploy measures to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
Second victim of embankment collapse during Prenn Pass expansion construction has died
At noon on June 18, news from Lam Dong General Hospital said that the second victim of the embankment collapse during the construction of the Prenn Pass expansion in Da Lat City, Lam Dong, had died. The victim's name was Nguyen Hong Phi (55 years old, residing in Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).
As Thanh Nien reported, the above accident occurred at around 12:15 p.m. on June 17. While covering the embankment to widen Prenn Pass (the beginning of the pass), Mr. Pham Minh Duc (30 years old, residing in Ba Thuoc District, Thanh Hoa Province) and Mr. Nguyen Hong Phi were crushed by a 6-meter high, 20-meter long landslide.
The construction team used excavators and scrapers to find the two victims. About 20 minutes later, they found Mr. Phi and Mr. Duc and took both victims to Lam Dong General Hospital for emergency treatment. However, Mr. Duc died before being taken to the hospital. Mr. Phi was seriously injured and despite the doctors' efforts to rescue and treat him, he did not survive.
