According to FIFA regulations, players who receive a red card in an official friendly match are also banned from playing in the same tournament. With a direct red card in the match against China tonight (October 10), Nguyen Tien Linh will not be allowed to play in the next match of the same level for the Vietnamese team.
Tien Linh fouled his opponent and received a red card.
On October 13, the Vietnamese team will play Uzbekistan. However, this is not an official friendly match. FIFA only allows each team to play 2 official matches in the October international series. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has chosen 2 matches with China and South Korea. The match with Uzbekistan is considered an unofficial friendly and is a closed match.
Tien Linh has not had a positive impression under coach Troussier.
Tien Linh's penalty will be applied to the match against Korea on October 17. The striker born in 1997 can still play in the match against Uzbekistan.
Nguyen Tien Linh received a red card in the 89th minute of the match between Vietnam and China on the evening of October 10. Notably, this player had just entered the field 10 minutes earlier. He fouled defender Jiang Guangtai and made the Chinese player angry.
The referee then consulted VAR and reviewed the video. He determined that Tien Linh had used his elbow to foul Jiang Guangtai, and decided to cancel the previous yellow card given to Tien Linh and replace it with a red card.
This is Tien Linh’s first match for the Vietnam national team under coach Philippe Troussier. In previous training sessions, the striker was still on the squad list but did not get to play.
