Peach sellers long for the cold but fear the rain
Bringing nearly 300 peach trees from the North to the Da Nang spring flower market since January 20, Mr. Nguyen Van Phi, owner of a peach garden in Sa Pa (Lao Cai province), has been selling while waiting for the weather. So far, he has sold 40% of the peach trees but is still worried about the upcoming peak days because of the forecast of moderate to heavy rain.
"Peach trees are afraid of the sun and like the cold weather, but we are afraid of the rain. Currently, the consumption market is slow, so if it rains and is cold again, it will be very difficult because many people are afraid to go out shopping," Phi shared.
According to records, at the flower market in the Tien Son Sports Palace area, peach trees are sold for prices ranging from 1.8 million to 2.4 million VND.
Peach blossoms are more popular among Da Nang residents and are more expensive. Peach blossoms, although blooming beautifully, are not as popular and are priced lower. Many large early blooming trees are even sold for only 1 million VND.

Mr. Phi commented that this year's purchasing power is not as good as last year's. However, the price of flowers and ornamental plants is still higher due to low quantity and weather impact.
In the peach selling area behind Lotte supermarket, the price of peaches from the North is higher than peaches from the North Central region due to transportation costs and damage caused by weather.
"This year, the North suffered heavy rain and storms, causing severe damage to many peach gardens. The remaining trees are carefully cared for, so the price is higher. Garden peaches are more expensive than wild peaches because they bloom evenly and have a more beautiful shape," said Nguyen Phong Bac, a peach seller.

Rain escape
Not only peach sellers, but also apricot sellers at Da Nang spring flower market are even more nervous during this Tet flower season.
Mr. Hong Vu, owner of an apricot garden in An Nhon (Binh Dinh), said that due to the cold weather, the apricot blossoms are slow to bloom this year. Rain is forecast in the coming days, making it even more difficult for the peach blossoms to bloom in time for Tet.
On the afternoon of January 25, Mr. Vu took the opportunity to "sell" some apricot pots early to reduce inventory, in case of heavy rain.
"This year, only about 5% of my garden's pots bloomed in time for Tet, so I only brought out 50 plants here. But hearing the news of rain during the peak days made me scared," he said.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , many Tet flower sellers have reduced prices in the past two days to quickly sell their goods and avoid stockpiling due to heavy rain.
This is rare because it is the first day of Tet holiday, when flower decoration shopping activities should be at their peak.
