On the evening of February 17, the Traffic Police - Order Team of District 1 Police (HCMC) set up a checkpoint to check the alcohol concentration of motorbike and car drivers on Hoang Sa Street, through Tan Dinh Ward (District 1).
To make the inspection effective, the working group asked for support from Tan Dinh Ward Police to block alleys in the area to prevent drivers from discovering the checkpoint and turning around to run away.
At 9:30 p.m., Mr. NMT (born in 1992, living in Binh Thanh district) was driving a foreign man near the checkpoint when he discovered the traffic police and stopped.
Traffic police officers approached to check and discovered that Mr. T. had an alcohol concentration of 0.294 mg/liter of breath, issued a fine of 4.5 million VND, and revoked his driver's license for 17 months.
Mr. T. said he was walking on the sidewalk when a foreign man approached him and asked him to help him for a while, saying he didn't know the way.
“I had a few beers tonight so I didn’t drive. Seeing the foreign man begging me so much, I thought he was lost so I came to help him. Who would have thought he was drunk and asked me to take him to the checkpoint? Now I’m being fined, it’s true that I did a good deed and got into trouble,” said Mr. T.
While the traffic police were writing the ticket, the foreign man kept behaving and speaking out of control. Only when the task force intervened did the foreign man leave the checkpoint.
About 20 minutes later, Mr. TXC (born in 1979, from Ba Ria - Vung Tau) drove a motorbike through the area and appeared drunk, so the traffic police invited him in to work and check his alcohol concentration.
Mr. C. had an alcohol concentration of 0.743 mg/liter of breath (almost twice the maximum limit), was fined 7 million VND by the traffic police, and had his driver's license revoked for 23 months.
Mr. C. said he had drunk 2 cans at a New Year's party at a friend's house and was on his way home when he was stopped by the traffic police.
Also on the night of February 17, two other drivers with alcohol concentrations of 0.349 mg/liter of breath and under 0.25 mg/liter of breath were also fined by the Traffic Police - Order Team of District 1 Police.
Previously, on the evening of February 13 (the 4th day of Tet), the Da Phuoc Traffic Police Team, under the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police, coordinated with the Mobile Police force to set up a checkpoint to check alcohol concentration at the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh Street and National Highway 50 (through Binh Hung Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City).
