Tam Lanh, a new day

Tam Lanh is known as the locality that possesses the Bong Mieu gold mine - with the largest reserves and scale of exploitation in the country since the French colonial era.

The fleeting dream of gold in this land seems to have come to an end. The peaceful, tranquil countryside nestled beside Phu Ninh Lake is now nurturing a new aspiration - to develop Tam Lanh into a favorite tourist destination.

Surveys and assessments have shown that Tam Lanh boasts a picturesque natural landscape and a diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna. Here, Phu Ninh Lake is like a "miniature Ha Long Bay," connected to historical sites and scenic spots such as Ham Ho White Waterfall, Bong Mieu gold mine, and Ganh Gau - Bat Cave…

From February to September in the lunar calendar, the water level in Phu Ninh Lake gradually recedes, creating winding, undulating sandbanks. During this period, the lake's edge is an ideal location for visitors to enjoy outdoor activities, camping, and fishing.

Tam Lanh also has Ba Dinh ferry landing, which once witnessed many heroic deeds of our army and people during the two wars of resistance against foreign invaders; and Ho Sanh stream, still pristine with crystal-clear water all year round.

The people of Tam Lanh live primarily by farming, possessing a strong sense of community and a rich cultural heritage typical of Central Vietnamese villages.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Su, Chairman of the Tam Lanh Commune People's Committee, most residents in Phuoc Bac and An My villages wish to participate in community tourism activities to showcase the historical and cultural values, scenic spots, and ecological environment of the locality, improve their livelihoods, and increase their income.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam - Director of Tam Group Trading and Service Joint Stock Company (a tourism company operating in southern Quang Nam province ) - believes that it is possible to study promoting tourism in Tam Lanh via waterways by creating tour links with destinations in Tam Ky.

Furthermore, the White Waterfall at Ham Ho could become a unique destination if the management knows how to appropriately exploit its potential, integrating the development of experiential tourism products such as gold panning linked to the historical stories of the area.

Much to look forward to…

In 2024, the People's Committee of Phu Ninh district issued a plan to implement a support scheme for community tourism development in Tam Lanh commune, creating a favorable foundation for the development of community tourism in Tam Lanh.

According to this plan, relevant parties have been implementing various tasks to establish and improve the infrastructure for the Tam Lanh tourist destination. Notable activities include: investing in the renovation of the Phước Lợi village community center (no longer in use) to serve as a reception and information point for visitors; investing in several public restrooms along the lake; renovating and repairing damaged areas and constructing a vehicle bypass on the route from Bà Dinh ferry terminal to Mr. Trình's house; improving the roadbed and paving the road from Mr. Lợi's house to Khe Sanh pit; supporting the development of garden-based economic models for 23 gardens with an area of ​​over 1,000 ^m² ; painting murals on house walls; and providing boats for transporting tourists on the lake…

Mr. Nguyen Van Su said that after receiving support from the district to develop community tourism, Tam Lanh received more visitors in 2024. He hopes that in early 2025, Tam Lanh will create a new image and offer many impressive experiences for tourists with a Community Tourism Week to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Phu Ninh district's establishment.

In the Quang Nam tourism product development plan until 2030, community tourism and rural tourism are among the types of tourism that receive a lot of attention.

The community-based tourism model in Tam Lanh commune is one of the destinations listed as having potential for investment in the development of ecotourism and community-based tourism products in the plan. If some of the support mechanisms and projects in the plan are approved in the coming period, new destinations like Tam Lanh will have more resources for development.

Community-based tourism is breathing new life into the transformation of a region that was once a gold mining hub. The road ahead for tourism development in Tam Lãnh will be full of challenges, but it is also very promising...
