Vietnam's defense policy follows the motto of peacekeeping and self-defense.

On the afternoon of December 20, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and the armies of Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Russia, Singapore and Thailand to attend the ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 30th anniversary of National Defense Day.

* On the morning of December 20, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense coordinated with the Lao Ministry of National Defense and the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense to organize a ceremony to present medals of the State of Vietnam, the State of Laos and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

At the ceremony, on behalf ofthe President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, General Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, awarded the First Class Independence Medal to General Tea Banh, Standing Member of the Cambodian People's Party, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense of Cambodia, for his many positive contributions to defense cooperation and building the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On behalf of the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, General Chansamone Chanyalath, Politburo member of the Central Executive Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Minister of National Defense, awarded the First Class Freedom Medal to General Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam; and the Second Class Freedom Medal to General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.

On this occasion, authorized by the King of Cambodia, General Tea Banh awarded the First Class Friendship Medal to General Ngo Xuan Lich and General Luong Cuong for their contributions to the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the people and armies of Vietnam and Cambodia.

In the morning of the same day, the ministers held talks and signed the Cooperation Protocol for the 2020-2024 period and the Cooperation Plan for 2020 between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense; and between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Lao Ministry of National Defense.
