Speaking with Dan Viet reporter on the afternoon of May 29, Mr. Hoang Van Chung, Vice Chairman of Binh Gia District People's Committee, Lang Son province, said that swarms of yellow-backed bamboo locusts had just appeared and caused damage in Thien Hoa commune.

"This swarm of bamboo locusts appeared from the forest and moved down to the residential area since yesterday (May 28). The district has sent people down to coordinate with the commune to spray pesticides for prevention. After having a specific report, we will inform you," Mr. Hoang Van Chung informed the reporter.

Regarding the above incident, the leader of Thien Hoa Commune People's Committee said that the appearance of the bamboo locust swarm initially affected the crops of the people. It is estimated that currently, about 1-2 hectares of corn fields of the people have been damaged.

"We have isolated and come up with solutions to limit the harmful effects of tens of thousands of locusts," the leader said, affirming that there has been no impact on students because the locusts only jump, crawl, and cling to walls and ornamental plants... in response to information and images circulating on social media about locusts appearing at a primary school in the commune.

Previously, on social networks, images of a Lang Son school suddenly became a "hot spot" on online forums when thousands of locusts invaded, covering every inch of the walls and door frames. The swarm of locusts covered the walls and walkways, and from afar, many people thought they were "caterpillars".

It is known that the video recording the image of thousands of locusts covering walls, trees and roads appeared at Thien Hoa Primary School, Binh Gia District, Lang Son, giving many people "goosebumps".

The long-backed yellow bamboo locust is a species that lives in swarms and is very destructive to people's crops and is very difficult to control. Their favorite foods are corn, bamboo, and rice.
