Government sets up delegation to negotiate trade issues with the US

(PLVN) - Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien is the Head of the Government's negotiating delegation on the trade agreement with the US, including the issue of reciprocal tax policy for Vietnam's imported goods.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Decision No. 753/QD-TTg on the establishment of the Government Negotiation Delegation on trade issues with the United States.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister decided to establish the Government Negotiation Team on the reciprocal trade agreement with the United States (referred to as the Negotiation Team).

The head of the delegation is Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien.

Deputy Head of the delegation is Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan.

Members of the Negotiating Delegation include: Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuan; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Hoang Trung; Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet; Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Pham Quang Dung; Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan; Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is the standing agency of the Negotiation Delegation. The Negotiation Delegation has a Working Group consisting of Department-level civil servants of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and relevant ministries and agencies. The Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Negotiation Delegation, proposes to the Prime Minister to promulgate the Working Regulations of the Negotiation Delegation and members of the Working Group.

The negotiating delegation has the following tasks: To preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to develop scenarios and negotiation plans with the United States on reciprocal trade agreements, in the spirit of ensuring national and ethnic interests and harmonious benefits and shared risks.

Conduct negotiations with the US side to reach a reciprocal trade agreement that is appropriate, balanced, stable, sustainable, effective, mutually respectful and mutually beneficial.

Report to the Prime Minister on the negotiation process and results; propose to competent authorities necessary measures and policies to implement the agreement after it is signed.

This Decision comes into force from April 12, 2025.
