Authorities have just successfully rescued 14 people on the Hoa Lu 02 ship that sank in the waters of Binh Dinh province.
On December 21, the Quy Nhon Port Border Guard Station (Binh Dinh) said that it had coordinated with the Quy Nhon Maritime Port Authority to receive 14 crew members whose ship sank.
Previously, at around 10:55 p.m. on December 20, the Quy Nhon Port Border Guard Station received information from the Quy Nhon Maritime Port Authority about the Hoa Lu 02 ship having an accident while traveling through the waters of Binh Dinh province.
This ship is carrying more than 12,000 tons of clinker from Quang Ninh to Ba Ria - Vung Tau, with 12 crew members and 2 passengers on board.
While approaching Con Trau Islet, in the waters of Phu My District, Binh Dinh Province, the ship encountered an incident where water flooded into the cargo hold and sank. There were about 17,000 liters of DO oil on board.
Upon receiving the news, Quy Nhon Maritime Port Authority dispatched ship Nhat Chau 289 to approach and successfully rescue 14 people on board ship Hoa Lu 02.
On the morning of December 21, the crew members were brought ashore safely with stable health.
Captain of the Hoa Lu 02 ship, Ma Van Ngoc, shared that when he was steering the ship to the sea area of Phu My district, he encountered a large wave hitting the left side of the ship. At that time, seawater flooded into the ship's hold and cargo hold, causing the ship to gradually sink.
“At that time, I only had time to send out a distress signal and instruct the crew to drop all their belongings, abandon ship, and grab life jackets to jump into the raft. More than 10 minutes later, the ship sank completely into the sea. Fortunately, no one was injured,” said Mr. Ngoc.
