The cargo boat sank along with dozens of tons of rice.
At approximately 4:30 PM on April 14th, a cargo boat carrying over 40 tons of rice, traveling on the Vam Co Tay River from Moc Hoa District towards a factory in Can Duoc District, Long An Province, experienced an incident that caused the entire load of rice to sink to the bottom of the river. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Mr. Phan Van Quoc, born in 1953, residing in Vinh Thuan commune, Vinh Hung district, Long An province (the owner of the vehicle), stated: During the process of transporting rice to the milling factory, upon reaching the Quang Cut bridge area (right at the Anaro Agro factory's loading and unloading point) in Kien Tuong town, he stopped the vehicle to rest and wait for his nephew's boat to arrive to guide him to the factory.
As soon as the boat docked, due to a landslide on the embankment, sharp stakes pierced the bottom of the boat, and within about 15 minutes, all the rice on board was submerged in the river.
After the incident, the boat owner mobilized forces and hired workers to salvage the cargo. By noon on April 16th, the rice and the boat had been salvaged. According to Mr. Quoc, the estimated damage is over 200 million VND (including salvage equipment rental costs, losses, drying costs, and reduced quality of the remaining rice...).
