The General Secretary and President stated that the friendship between Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau is the crystallization of the spirit of loyal and pure international solidarity, which has been diligently cultivated by generations of leaders of the two countries.

On the evening of September 6, at the International Convention Center, Hanoi, General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife hosted a solemn reception for President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his wife, who are on an official visit to Vietnam.

Warmly welcoming the President and his wife and distinguished guests of Guinea-Bissau on their official visit to Vietnam, General Secretary and President To Lam said that the President's visit took place in September, a very special time not only for the history of each country but also for bilateral relations, associated with many important holidays such as the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945); the 51st anniversary of Guinea-Bissau's Independence Day (September 24, 1973) and the Day of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries (September 30, 1973).

The General Secretary and President stated that the friendship between Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau is the crystallization of the spirit of loyal and pure international solidarity, which has been diligently cultivated by generations of leaders of the two countries.

Exactly 51 years ago, Vietnam was one of the first countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations just 6 days after Guinea-Bissau declared independence.

Highly appreciating the results of the talks with President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, through which important directions were agreed upon to synchronously implement cooperation in all priority areas, and sign cooperation documents to create a favorable legal framework for bilateral cooperation, the General Secretary and President expressed his belief that this visit of the President, the first exchange of delegations at the head of state since the two countries established diplomatic relations, will be a great success, opening a new era in the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau, meeting the aspirations of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The General Secretary and President said that during his lifetime, beloved President Ho Chi Minh of the Vietnamese people visited Africa three times and that Africa was a place he paid special attention to and had a famous saying: "Africa is an inseparable part of the national liberation movement in the world."

The General Secretary and President affirmed that, following in the footsteps of President Ho Chi Minh, today "Uncle Ho's soldiers" from the military, public security forces, and businesses of Vietnam are present in Africa, participating in peacekeeping activities and developing infrastructure and telecommunications networks, contributing to maintaining peace and beautifying African lands.

The General Secretary and President stressed that Vietnam always remembers the support of friendly African countries, including Guinea-Bissau, for Vietnam's past struggle for national liberation; and hopes to continuously consolidate and nurture the traditional and friendly relationship between the two sides to further develop.

In his response, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Vietnam for the warm and sincere welcome given to the high-level delegation of Guinea-Bissau, considering it another testament to the lasting friendship between Guinea-Bissau and Vietnam.

President Umaro Sissoco Embaló affirmed that this visit is an opportunity to send greetings to the heroic Vietnamese people, a country that holds a very special place in the hearts and memories of the African people.

Expressing the similarities in the history of the two countries' struggle for national independence, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló emphasized that Guinea-Bissau and Vietnam share the values ​​of peace, freedom, social justice and prosperity for all.

The President of Guinea-Bissau said that during the talks, views were broadly exchanged on the international situation and especially on issues of mutual concern as well as cooperation opportunities that the two sides want to further enhance; emphasizing that these contents will be materialized through mechanisms to promote economic, trade, cultural and scientific exchanges.

President Umaro Sissoco Embaló also called on Vietnamese investors to come to Guinea-Bissau to build mutually beneficial partnerships, especially in areas such as rice production and cashew processing.

The President of Guinea-Bissau affirmed that the two countries will continue to accompany and support each other in international organizations of which the two countries are members, including the United Nations and the International Organization of La Francophonie, together achieving the goal of promoting sustainable development, protecting the planet and improving life for all.
