On April 17, the Ministry of Health informed that recently, the measles vaccination campaign has been strongly implemented, with positive results. The first phase of the campaign vaccinated 95.5% of subjects and the second phase of the campaign (as of April 7) vaccinated 96% of subjects.
In addition, the Ministry of Health also focuses on information and coordination work, working with the National Health Information Center to improve the quality of infectious disease reporting and coordinate with press agencies to disseminate information about the epidemic situation and prevention measures.
According to the Ministry of Health, in week 15 (from April 5-11), the country recorded 4,519 suspected measles cases, down 6.3% compared to the previous week (4,822 cases).
Since the beginning of 2025, the country has recorded more than 67,900 suspected cases of measles, of which 7,235 were positive.
The number of cases tended to increase from week 9, leveled off in week 14 and decreased in week 15. Some provinces and cities recorded a decrease in the number of cases such as Nghe An, Hue City, Hanoi, Da Nang City, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Thap.
Some places have recorded an increase in measles cases, including Gia Lai, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, mainly ethnic minorities. Worryingly, there have been 08 deaths related to measles recorded.
Compared to the first 3 months of 2025, the age structure of measles cases has changed: the 1-10 year old group has decreased, while the under 1 year old and over 10 year old groups have increased. Analysis of vaccination status shows that the highest measles incidence rate is in the unvaccinated group (82.8%).
Faced with this situation, the health sector has implemented many drastic measures. The Ministry of Health has closely monitored the epidemic situation across the country, especially in provinces and cities with high infection rates, and directed medical facilities to strengthen medical examination and treatment and infection control.
Although the epidemic situation has shown signs of easing, the health sector still recognizes many challenges. In particular, some localities have not achieved high vaccination rates (over 95%) due to difficulties in reaching the target population, especially in remote areas and large urban areas. Awareness among some people is still limited, leading to a fear of vaccination. In addition, the number of grassroots health workers is still low, making implementation difficult.
To respond effectively, the Ministry of Health recommends that provincial and municipal health departments increase communication about the epidemic situation and disease prevention recommendations. The Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Pasteur Institute are required to closely monitor the situation and research epidemic prevention measures. Medical examination and treatment facilities need to effectively carry out patient triage, admission, treatment and infection control.../.
