As soon as it appeared on the capital's tourism map, the 3.5-hectare Koi fish pond located on Quang Ba Street attracted the attention of many Hanoians and tourists.
Feeding Koi fish - an experience not to be missed when visiting West Lake. |
This Koi pond is located in Dam Dong (Quang An ward, Tay Ho, Hanoi). Previously, this lake was only used to grow lotus flowers for tourists to visit and take photos during the lotus season from June to September.
Three months ago, this lake was renovated to add Koi fish to create a public playground for people coming to Tay Ho district.
More than 12,000 colorful Koi fish of all sizes make anyone who visits Quang Ba Street stop to admire. Now, visitors can not only admire the West Lake lotus but also have many interesting activities.
The presence of the Koi fish pond quickly became the center of attention of the people of the capital. |
Ms. Pham Thi Hanh (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) said that this lake was renovated and stocked with fish 3 months ago. Up to now, the fish have stabilized and are quite familiar with people.
“Previously, lotus flowers were planted in the lake to make tea, but the lotus flowers only bloomed for 3 months a year, and the remaining 9 months the lotus flowers withered, which was very unsightly. In particular, Dam Dong Lake has 3 sides adjacent to West Lake, which is a place where many tourists come to visit and take photos at sunset, including international visitors.
"So we decided to release the Akicoi fish into the lotus pond. This fish species is very friendly to humans and has bright colors. When visitors come to West Lake, they can take pictures with lotus flowers, experience feeding the fish, playing and taking pictures with the fish," Ms. Hanh shared.
On cool afternoons, many people and tourists come to Quang Ba street to admire Koi fish and experience feeding Koi fish. |
The novelty and uniqueness of this new destination quickly attracted the attention of Hanoians and tourists. Every cool morning and afternoon, the number of tourists flocking here increases.
Since learning about Quang Ba Koi fish pond, every day, Ms. Dam Thi Vy’s family (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) brings her granddaughter there to visit and feed the fish. For Ms. Vy, this interesting activity needs to be expanded further.
“There is no other amusement park in this area besides the water park, this is the first time there is an interesting activity like this. I think we need to expand experiential activities like this, children have a place to play and adults also have fun. Moreover, real-life experiential activities will help children become smarter,” Ms. Vy shared.
Previously, when mentioning West Lake in June, people would immediately think of the passionate scent of lotus, but now, in addition to enjoying lotus, visitors can admire schools of Koi fish swimming, creating a beautiful scene.
Children are the ones who are most excited about the appearance of Koi fish in West Lake. |
In addition to admiring the colorful Koi fish, locals and tourists can feed the fish themselves. This is also an experience that children love. At Dam Dong, a small U-shaped bamboo bridge was built to help visitors easily check-in and feed the fish.

Having been to West Lake for over 20 years, this place has been associated with many memories for Mr. Pham Ngoc Vinh. But instead of wandering around the streets to kill time like before, his family has had a new experience of feeding Koi fish.
“This place has just been dredged and cleaned up, and there is a Koi pond so there is more space for the children to play. In the past, young people played more.
During the school year, children mainly participate in extracurricular activities in the suburbs. Recently, there have been incidents related to food safety during picnics, which has also made parents worried.
Having entertainment spots like this in the city creates conditions for children to play and parents to look after their children," said Mr. Vinh.
“The most interesting thing is when the Koi fish compete to eat, they swim together in a very impressive school. I find this Koi pond very harmonious with the landscape of West Lake. I hope this will be a favorite destination for tourists,” said Mr. Pham Hiep.
Koi pond is also a great place to admire the West Lake sunset. Along with the experience of feeding fish, this place promises to become an interesting destination for domestic and foreign tourists when coming to West Lake in the near future.
