Many designs, affordable prices
Since December 25, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan (Xuan Khanh Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) has been shopping for ornamental flowers to display at home for Tet. Ms. Xuan said that this year, in addition to traditional ornamental flowers such as marigolds, chrysanthemums, apricot blossoms, etc., there are also many new types of flowers that are very beautiful and affordable. However, according to her, the Tet market scene this year is somewhat less bustling.
“Normally, on the 25th of Tet, it is very crowded to go to the market, but this year, there are many sellers and few buyers. I bought a few pots of marigolds to display on the 25th of Tet. Even though it was just the beginning of Tet, the prices of ornamental flowers were not only not too high but even cheaper, so when the seller told me the price, I bought it right away,” Ms. Xuan confided.
Also buying Tet flowers early to decorate her house, Ms. Ly Nhu Huynh (An Phu ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) shared that this year consumers seem to be shopping for Tet later, perhaps partly due to economic difficulties.
“To prepare for decorating the house, I bought flowers on the 26th of December. Buying flowers early allows me to choose the designs I like. Besides, I think Tet should be decorated from the 25th and 26th of December until the first day of the new year. If I buy flowers on the 30th of Tet, the house will not have much of a Tet atmosphere,” said Ms. Huynh.
According to Ms. Huynh, there is only one occasion each year, Lunar New Year, so spending a little more on this item is okay. In addition, this year the price of ornamental flowers is relatively stable, suitable for people's budget: "Gardeners have to spend a lot of effort to take care of these beautiful flower pots, so I think if the price is right, I should buy them right away, no need to wait until the 30th of Tet."
Don't wait until the 30th of Tet to buy
Besides buying flowers early to choose beautiful designs, Ms. Huynh also hopes that this can help gardeners and traders to return home early to celebrate Tet with their families.
“There is only one Tet holiday each year, so perhaps gardeners and traders invest a lot. Not only do they have capital for flowers, but they also have to pay for rental space and transportation, so if they can’t sell or have to sell at a loss at a low price, their Tet will not be complete. Therefore, even though it’s not much, just a few pots, I hope to help gardeners and traders sell out soon so they can go home with their families,” Ms. Huynh confided.
Similarly, Ms. Xuan also hopes that traders and gardeners at the Tet market will have good sales to celebrate Tet happily. She shared that this year the economy is difficult, people are tightening their spending, waiting for cheap flowers is understandable. However, gardeners and traders are also facing difficulties. So if people wait until New Year's Eve to buy every year, it would be a pity for gardeners and traders, especially when this year the prices are quite cheap right from the beginning of Tet.
"If they can't sell, not only will the seller not have money to celebrate Tet, but they will also have to spend money on transporting the flowers back. One year, I saw on TV that many people didn't have enough capital and had to leave the flowers behind and go home empty-handed. It was so pitiful, so not only this year but every Tet, I try to buy flowers to help small traders and gardeners prepare their goods and return home early for Tet," Ms. Xuan confided.
