Chi Minh commune has 403 households and 1,757 people. According to statistics, the whole commune has over 3,750 hectares of agricultural and forestry land (accounting for over 73% of the natural land area). This is an advantage for the commune to develop production models such as afforestation, black jelly trees, fruit trees...
Mr. Ma Van Hon, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chi Minh Commune, said: In recent years, the Party Committee and the communal government have proactively researched and based on natural conditions, climate, and soil to determine key crops. Accordingly, determining that developing cinnamon, black jelly and fruit trees such as tangerines and Canh oranges is a suitable direction, the communal government has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to convert ineffective cultivated land to grow the above crops. At the same time, every year, the People's Committee of the commune coordinates with related units to organize 4-5 training courses on techniques for planting and caring for forests, black jelly trees, etc.; organize 2-3 vocational training courses on agriculture and forestry for people.
In addition, to help people have capital to develop production models, the Party Committee and the commune government have directed organizations and unions to receive trust to support poor and near-poor households to access preferential capital sources. Up to now, the total outstanding balance of trust capital through the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank (SPB) of Trang Dinh district has reached over 12.4 billion VND with 211 borrowers.
Mr. Trieu Van Hoan, Slam Khuoi village, Chi Minh commune said: My family currently has 2 members. In 2022, with the propaganda of the Commune Farmers' Association, I applied for a loan of 60 million VND from the Transaction Office of the Social Policy Bank of Trang Dinh district to take care of 2 hectares of cinnamon. In 2024, my family started to harvest nearly 1 ton of cinnamon bark, with a selling price of 19,000 - 20,000 VND/kg. In addition, my family also grows 2 sao of black jelly, each year harvesting about 1 ton, with a selling price of 30,000 VND/kg. Thanks to the income from growing cinnamon and black jelly, the family has a total income of 50 million VND/year. At the end of 2024, my family escaped poverty. Currently, the family is focusing on taking care of more than 100 Canh orange trees, which are expected to yield their first harvest this year, thereby helping to increase the family's income.
In addition, the commune government also prioritizes the flexible use of capital from national target programs to support people in developing production. From 2022 to present, from capital sources supporting production development under the National Target Program for Socio -Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas; National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the commune government has supported people in implementing 5 projects: 1 pig farming project (scale of 100 pigs), 1 chicken farming project (scale of 2,500 pigs), 1 cow farming project (scale of 16 pigs), 2 commercial buffalo farming projects (scale of 22 pigs) with 44 households participating, with a total cost of over 1.5 billion VND. Up to now, all projects have been successfully implemented, helping about 20 households increase their income by 10 - 30 million VND/year.
Mr. Ma Van Hon, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chi Minh Commune, added: There is a traditional weaving profession in the area. Therefore, in addition to the above solutions, the People's Committee of the commune has focused on encouraging and supporting people to maintain and develop the weaving profession. Accordingly, the People's Committee of the commune has developed a plan, including the preservation and development of the traditional weaving profession as one of the key tasks to be carried out; promoting households to establish cooperatives to build brands and promote products; supporting people in finding and linking products for consumption... Currently, the whole commune has 40 households with about 120 people engaged in weaving. The traditional profession has contributed to creating livelihoods, helping people have a stable income of 3 to 5 million VND/household/month. Thereby, contributing to the poverty reduction work of the commune.
In addition to the weaving profession, thanks to the attention and support of the Party Committee and the commune government and the proactiveness of the people, up to now, the whole commune has had many effective production models, typically: cinnamon growing model (165 ha); acacia growing model (over 100 ha); black jelly growing model (5.7 ha); Canh orange growing model (6 ha); macadamia growing model (8 ha); sugarcane growing model (12.5 ha)... The whole commune has over 100 households with an income of 60 to 100 million VND/year from the above economic models.
Mr. Chu Tuan Doanh, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Trang Dinh district, said: In recent times, the Party Committee and the government of Chi Minh commune have synchronously implemented poverty reduction solutions, focusing on exploiting the existing advantages of the locality to support people in developing production. In particular, the Party Committee and the government of the commune have paid attention to implementing projects under national target programs to create livelihoods and improve people's lives. In 2024, the poverty reduction rate in the commune exceeded the district's target, thereby contributing positively to the district's overall poverty reduction work.
According to statistics, by the end of 2024, the commune's poverty rate will be 1.35%, down 1.35% compared to 2023; average income per capita will reach 45 million VND/person, up 3 million VND/person compared to 2023. With this result, in February 2025, Chi Minh commune was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the District People's Committee for its outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "For the poor - No one is left behind" in 2024.
