This morning (December 31), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport started the projects to raise the clearance of Binh Trieu 1 Bridge on Highway 13 and Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge on Highway 1.
These are two projects invested by the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center, with an expected construction time of 8 months.
The project to raise the clearance of Binh Trieu 1 bridge on National Highway 13 (connecting Binh Thanh District and Thu Duc City) has a length of about 770m, with a total investment of more than 132 billion VND. Meanwhile, the project to raise the clearance of Binh Phuoc 1 bridge on National Highway 1 (connecting District 12 and Thu Duc City) has a total length of about 759m, with a total investment of more than 110 billion VND.
Of which, Binh Trieu 1 bridge will be raised in height by 1.081m, Binh Phuoc 1 bridge by about 1.25m.
According to Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong, Saigon River is an important waterway for socio-economic development, connecting with Tay Ninh, Binh Duong provinces as well as Cambodia.
Currently, there are 14 bridges across the Saigon River, but the two bridges Binh Trieu 1 and Binh Phuoc 1 do not ensure a minimum clearance of 7m, limiting waterway traffic. Therefore, the implementation of two projects to raise bridge clearance is extremely necessary.
Mr. Cuong also said that the solution to raise the bridge's clearance is considered a commitment to regional development, ensuring synchronous exploitation of important waterways, helping to reduce transportation costs and pressure on road traffic.
