Each tael of SJC gold bar today increased by more than 1 million VND to 75 million, while bank USD also increased strongly.
SJC gold prices were flat early in the morning on January 11 but increased sharply in the afternoon. Each tael of gold bar at Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) increased by VND1.3 million for buying and VND800,000 for selling at the end of the day, up to VND72.8 - 75.3 million per tael. At DOJI Jewelry Group, the price of gold bars also increased to VND72.75 - 75.25 million.
After two weeks of maintaining the high buying and selling gap of 3 million VND per tael, today gold shops have narrowed the gap to 2.5 million. However, this is still a large gap compared to the normal level of only a few hundred thousand VND per tael before the gold price "fever".
Gold rings also increased today but at a lower rate. SJC gold rings of type 1-5 increased by only VND100,000 to VND62 - 63.1 million per tael. 99.99% jewelry gold increased to VND61.9 - 62.8 million. At DOJI, 9999 round rings increased to VND62.55 - 63.5 million and 9999 jewelry increased to VND62.15 - 63.25 million.
Currently, the world spot gold price is around 2,030 USD per ounce, converted according to Vietcombank's selling rate, equivalent to 60.3 million VND per tael. The difference between domestic and world gold bar prices is around 15 million VND per tael, while domestic gold rings are 2.8 million VND higher than world prices.
In the foreign exchange market, the price of USD in banks and free markets also increased. Compared to the beginning of this year, Vietcombank's exchange rate has increased by more than 200 VND, equivalent to an increase of 0.9%. Today, Vietcombank increased sharply by 80 VND to 24,265 VND, selling at 24,635 VND.
The black market USD price has also been increasing in recent days. Currently, USD buying and selling points on the free market are buying at 24,750 VND and selling at 24,850 VND, an increase of nearly 100 VND compared to the beginning of the year.
