Warning about cheap airline ticket scams

According to the announcement of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - Ho Chi Minh City Police, the long holiday celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and the International Labor Day on May 1 is a time when the demand for travel increases, many people look for cheap air tickets to travel and visit relatives. Taking advantage of this psychology, online scammers have launched a series of sophisticated tricks to appropriate people's property.

Among them, the common tricks that these subjects often use are: Impersonating fanpages and websites of reputable airlines or official airline ticket agents. In addition, many subjects post advertisements for unusually cheap tickets with attractive messages: "hot tickets, super cheap prices, limited quantity!", stimulating greed to book large numbers of tickets for organizations and agencies to enjoy the difference.

Scammers often request a quick transfer to "hold a seat", then cut off contact or report an error to entice customers to transfer more money to get back the money they transferred earlier. Customers receive a fake booking/reservation code, only to discover that the transaction did not exist when they arrive at the airport.

In addition to issuing warnings about this scam, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department - Ho Chi Minh City Police also provides instructions on how to avoid becoming a victim of scammers.

People are advised to only buy tickets through the official website or authorized agents of the airline; Check the fanpage, phone number, and address carefully (Note: High interaction is not necessarily real); Do not transfer money to individuals, especially when there is no contract or clear confirmation; When in doubt, call the airline's official hotline to verify before paying.

"Unusually cheap tickets - extraordinary risks, so be a smart consumer, stay alert to increasingly sophisticated scams on the internet. When scammed, people should quickly report to the nearest police agency for support and handling", the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - Ho Chi Minh City Police recommends.
