Fortunately, the fire was "quickly extinguished" after it broke out, a spokesperson for cruise line Royal Caribbean confirmed to CNN . The cruise line said no one was injured and the overall impact on the ship was "minimal".
The record-breaking superyacht Icon of the Seas – 363 meters long and with a gross tonnage of 250,800 tons – was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico, when the incident occurred. The ship experienced a brief power outage, but the backup power supply was activated immediately.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson confirmed that crew members had brought the fire under control and explained that all staff are trained to handle such situations.
Icon of the Seas, a $2 billion ship that garnered attention upon its launch and maiden voyage earlier this year, boasts seven swimming pools – including a record-breaking water park at sea spanning over 5,000 square meters. The ship's current voyage is unaffected by the fire and is en route to Cozumel Island in Mexico.
Speaking to CNN , a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said that fires are "uncommon but not rare" on cruise ships, but are usually dealt with quickly and cause little disruption to passengers.
During the incident, announcements on board alerted passengers to what was happening, according to the cruise line. Social media users on the Icon of the Seas Facebook group spoke of minor disruptions to their day, but operations quickly returned to normal.

In 2013, the Grandeur of the Seas, also operated by Royal Caribbean, caught fire for over two hours at midnight in its bow while en route to the Bahamas. None of the 2,224 passengers and 796 crew members were injured, but the fire was a haunting experience for cruise enthusiasts at the time.
