The fire started in a two-story house and then spread to a warehouse storing scraps of fabric in Trung Son commune, Viet Yen district, killing three family members.
At around 1:30 a.m. on June 22, a fire broke out at the house and business of Mr. Tong Van Lan, 58 years old, in Trung Son commune. Inside the house were Mr. Lan, his daughter Tong Thi Tuyen, 34 years old, and his 3-year-old granddaughter.
Neighbors said Mr. Lan called for help, but when many people ran over, smoke and fire billowed up, engulfing the house.
Viet Yen District Police mobilized 4 fire trucks and about 30 soldiers to coordinate with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police to the scene.
At around 4am, the fire was extinguished. However, Mr. Lan died on the stairs, Ms. Tuyen and her daughter died in the bathroom area.
The fire burned down many properties, including a truck, three motorbikes and all the rags in the house.
Mr. Lan's family specializes in purchasing scrap fabric for production and trading of supporting industrial products. The entire house and workshop are built on an area of about 500 m2.
To store the goods, the family built a warehouse combined with a production workshop, and installed two rolling doors. At the time of the fire, because the rolling doors were locked, the authorities had to use an excavator to break them down to get inside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
