Hearing the fire alarm and smoke billowing from the third floor of an apartment building in Ho Chi Minh City, hundreds of people panicked and searched for a way to escape.
Late tonight (January 15), the Fire Prevention and Rescue Force of Ho Chi Minh City Police is still coordinating with Binh Chanh District Police to block off and examine the scene of the fire at a block of Mizuki Park apartment building, Nguyen Van Linh Street, Binh Hung Commune.
Earlier, at around 7:30 p.m., residents heard a fire alarm and discovered black smoke billowing from the lower floors of a block in the Mizuki Park apartment complex.
Immediately, they panicked and ran down the stairs to escape to the ground. Security guards also approached, warned and assisted people to move safely.
On-site fire fighting was activated to control the fire and smoke but failed.
Upon receiving the report, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Force of Ho Chi Minh City Police and Binh Chanh District Police coordinated with relevant units to mobilize vehicles and officers and soldiers to the scene.
Because the fire created a lot of smoke, the elite special forces of Ho Chi Minh City Police deployed modern equipment to go deep inside the apartment building, both to clear the smoke and to search for victims.
According to initial information, in this fire, a security guard suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The police force directly guided nearly 90 people to escape safely.
Initially, authorities determined that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
