Kinhtedothi - In the early morning of February 10, Ve Pagoda - an ancient pagoda over 300 years old in Tho Xuong ward, Bac Giang city (Bac Giang province) suddenly caught fire, burning down the front hall and the back hall.

According to initial information, at around 1am on February 10, residents and some night shift workers passing by the Ve Pagoda area discovered the fire and shouted. The fire rose up to 10m high and spread quickly, engulfing the main hall area.

Upon receiving the news, Bac Giang City Police coordinated with the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department (Provincial Police) to mobilize 6 fire trucks and 40 officers and soldiers to quickly put out the fire.

At about 1:35 a.m., the fire was basically under control and at more than 2 p.m., the fire was completely extinguished.

Because the fire broke out at dawn and was discovered late, the front hall, the sanctuary, and many artifacts hundreds of years old were burned down. At the scene, the beams and columns were charred black, and the roof tiles collapsed. The fire did not cause any human casualties.

Ve Pagoda is an important historical and cultural relic, ranked as a National Artistic Relic in 1994. Inside the pagoda, there is a system of exquisitely carved Buddha statues, a 1.5m high bronze bell from the Le Canh Hung period (18th century), an incense burner and many other valuable historical relics.

Local authorities are currently compiling data on damaged artifacts and planning to preserve and restore the temple.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
