While there's no denying that AI has made incredible strides in many areas over the past few years, it's also come with its fair share of concerns. The founder of Wikipedia explained that using ChatGPT to write text created a mess because the tool did a terrible job with mostly wrong details and inaccurate information. He added that OpenAI's ChatGPT is on the decline, according to Windows Central .
Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales says ChatGPT is flawed and inaccurate
Wales described the process of using OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT, to write Wikipedia articles as a mess. He said the tool was terrible, unable to complete the job, missed good details when writing articles, and sometimes wrote incorrectly. This was reminiscent of the launch of Microsoft Copilot, when many users filed complaints, citing cases of the chatbot “hallucinating” or giving incorrect responses.
According to Jimmy Wales, not just charities and non-profits like Wikipedia, but most businesses would say that you have to be really, really careful if you intend to put the center of your business in a technology that is controlled by someone else because if that technology goes in a different direction, the whole business will be affected and can be at risk.
However, Mr. Wales did not completely rule out leveraging the capabilities of AI in Wikipedia. He emphasized the need for an AI tool that could be used to identify inaccuracies in articles.
The integration of generative AI is at an all-time high across various organizations like Microsoft, especially after the corporation invested billions of dollars in the technology to expand its partnership with OpenAI.
