To repair and renovate the median strip and expand the motorbike lane on Vo Van Kiet Avenue, 188 old, poorly growing trees will be cut down and 48 trees will be uprooted.
Recently, the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center said that it is carrying out construction, repair and renovation of the median strip on Vo Van Kiet Street (East-West Avenue).
Accordingly, currently the motorbike lane on Vo Van Kiet Street (District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) has a narrow cross-section, and vehicles are often congested.
48 trees were uprooted and replanted after the renovation was completed. Photo: TT |
Specifically, the 2-wheel lane (from Tan Kien intersection to Saigon River tunnel) consists of 2 road sections 3m-3.5m wide and 2m-2.5m wide, separated by a hard median strip consisting of a continuous grass bed with an average width of 7m and a grass bed with trees with an average width of 2m.
However, the number of vehicles on the route is increasing, causing congestion and collisions between vehicles.

Therefore, it is necessary to renovate the median strip between two lanes for two-wheeled vehicles and adjust the two-wheeled vehicle lane from two sections of road width from 3m-3.5m and 2m-2.5m to 7m synchronously throughout the route to increase the road's capacity and ensure traffic safety.
According to the Center, the repair and renovation scope is from km4+900 to km12+900 and there will be 236 affected trees that will need to be relocated. Therefore, this unit will uproot and replant 48 trees (tamarind, ironwood) and cut down 188 old, poorly growing trees including camphor and royal poinciana.
In addition, the renovation of the lawn median strip will be continuous, 2m wide on average and planted with trees.
The renovation and repair of Vo Van Kiet Street has started and is expected to be completed in mid-September 2024.
