On July 3, news from Can Tho University Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had just performed screw surgery to help restore mobility to a patient with complex bone marrow tumor.
Previously, Ms. TTD (66 years old, living in Can Tho City) often had aches and pains, and was slow to move. Ms. D. went to many places for medical examination and was diagnosed with varicose veins in the lower limbs, a complication of diabetes. However, taking medicine was not effective, Ms. D.'s legs became increasingly atrophied, she could not walk, and her spine became stiff and painful. Therefore, her family took her to Nam Can Tho University Hospital for examination.
The patient had successful screw surgery and regained mobility.
Through examination and paraclinical results, MRI images of the spine with medication, the doctor concluded that Ms. D. had a collapsed L4 vertebra, compressing the spinal cord and nerve roots, and most thought it was a spinal bone tumor. The doctors consulted with the hospital, prescribed treatment by screwing the arch to fix, decompress the spinal cord and nerve roots, and taking a sample of the tumor bone for pathological examination.
Successfully fixed the arch with screws, restoring mobility to the patient.
After 5 hours, the medical team successfully performed the surgery. Currently, the patient's health has recovered well, he can move his legs and walk lightly.
Through the case of Ms. D.'s bone marrow tumor, Dr. Ly Tan Phat, Nam Can Tho University Hospital, recommends that when you see signs of cervical spine pain, thoracic spine pain, lumbar spine pain with a tingling sensation, muscle weakness, you should see a specialist for timely advice and treatment.
