According to the official announcement, two Vietnamese scientists have just been elected as members of the World Academy of Sciences, including Major General, Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Nguyen The Hoang and Professor, Doctor, Meritorious Teacher Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai.
Recently, TWAS elected 74 new academicians from many countries around the world. It is known that these are also the academicians who received the most votes in the history of TWAS.
According to the published list, among the new academicians, Brazil and China are the two countries with the most new academicians (10 people), followed by India (9 people), Malaysia (7 people), South Africa (4 people), Bangladesh, Morocco, Pakistan (3 people each); Vietnam, Cuba, Egypt, the United States (2 people each)...
Among them, two Vietnamese scientists were elected as academicians of the World Academy of Sciences this time: Major General, Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Nguyen The Hoang, Deputy Director of the 108 Central Military Hospital and Professor, Doctor, Meritorious Teacher Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Vice Principal of the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
It is known that Major General, Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Nguyen The Hoang was born in 1965 in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province.
He was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Vietnam in 2006; received the degree of Doctor of Science in 2008 and Associate Professor of the University of Munich in 2009. In 2018, he received the title of Professor.
He is the main author of more than 100 research works published in domestic and international journals, chaired and participated in many scientific research projects at the State and Ministry levels. His scientific research works focus mainly on the fields of neovascularization and cell culture, free tissue flap transfer for microsurgery, treatment of complex congenital limb defects and organ transplantation.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, born in 1974 in Quang Ngai. She graduated with a degree in chemistry from the University of General Sciences (now the University of Natural Sciences). She then obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Toyama University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Japan.
She was appointed Associate Professor in 2014, then Professor in 2021. In 2023, Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai has led 14 research projects and published 90 international articles and 80 national articles. She was awarded the 2021 Kovalevskaia Prize for female scientists with outstanding achievements in scientific research and practical application.
