US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose an additional 50% tax on goods from China if the Beijing government does not stop its retaliation.
And in the latest development, the White House confirmed that President Trump will act as he said, raising tariffs on China to 104%.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said nearly 70 countries have contacted the US in hopes of starting negotiations to mitigate the impact of President Trump's new tariff policy, according to Reuters.
According to Ms. Leavitt, agreements will be approved if they benefit American workers and address the trade deficit with the United States.
President Trump has directed the White House team to work "tailor-made" with each country and territory that has contacted the US.
During the negotiations, tariffs remain in effect as previously announced by President Trump.
According to the White House, Mr. Trump will discuss issues such as foreign aid and military presence in countries and consider these issues as part of trade negotiations.
