Mudguards are often considered as an accessory attached to a car tire, but in fact, this is an important part that helps protect the car from environmental impacts.
The Construction Newspaper hotline received a question from a reader wondering about a torn fender on a car while the vehicle was due for inspection. Will taking the car for inspection cause the inspection to fail?
Mudguards are a mandatory inspection item in the car inspection process, however, torn and broken mudguards will not affect the vehicle's inspection results (illustrative photo).
Regarding this issue, a representative of a vehicle inspection facility in Hanoi said that the fender (also known as the wheel fender) is a detail attached to the rear tire of a car.
According to the National Technical Regulation on automobiles, trailers, semi-trailers, four-wheeled motorized cargo vehicles, four-wheeled motorized passenger vehicles in technical safety and environmental protection inspection (QCVN 122:2024), checking car fenders is one of the mandatory items in the inspection of circulating motor vehicles.
In which, if the fender is not fully installed (missing one side or both sides) it is classified as a major defect (MaD) and fails this inspection item, the car will not be granted an inspection stamp and registration certificate.
However, in the case of fenders that are not securely installed, torn, or broken as in the question of a reader of Construction Newspaper, the car is still allowed to pass the fender inspection category, because this is a minor damage or defect (MiD).
If the remaining inspection items are passed, the car will be granted an inspection stamp and a registration certificate with an inspection cycle appropriate to the production time and vehicle type.
The representative of the inspection facility added that although torn or broken fenders do not affect the results of the car inspection, car owners should also promptly repair or replace them to ensure that the fenders function most effectively when used, helping to protect the wheels in particular and the car in general.
Mudguards have many uses to help protect car wheels, limiting the impact of the vehicle on other traffic participants when it rains or is muddy.
An auto repair garage technician also said that today, many new car models are equipped with fenders as standard equipment; many car manufacturers also prioritize installing quality products on vehicles.
Most car fenders are made from high-quality plastic or rubber, so they are durable, can withstand strong impacts, and can easily flush dirt and debris off the wheels.
This helps reduce mud splashing onto the body and rear of the car, causing unsanitary conditions and unsightly appearance of the car. It also reduces water splashing to the rear and sides of the car, affecting other vehicles and people on the road.
In addition, the mudguard set also helps protect the wheel wells, reducing oxidation over time exposed to wind, rain, sand and dust, helping the car owner not have to struggle every time they clean.
Currently on the market there are many types and designs of fenders, therefore, many car owners also use fenders as a way to decorate their "beloved car", helping the car become stronger and more powerful.
