On April 3, Mr. Nguyen Van Diep, General Director of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company - the person who discovered the African swine fever vaccine, had a session to share the process of researching and using this vaccine in Hai Duong.
The program is part of a conference to disseminate legal documents and measures to prevent animal diseases for veterinary staff and breeders in the province, organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine (Department of Agriculture and Environment).
According to Mr. Diep, after the research process, he and his colleagues have created an African swine fever vaccine, marking a new step forward in controlling this disease. In 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) allowed the use of this vaccine in livestock farming. This is the first African swine fever vaccine to be circulated on the market. Vietnam is also the first country in the world to find a vaccine to prevent this disease.
There was no vaccine for African swine fever before. In Hai Duong and the whole country, there was an outbreak of African swine fever in 2019, causing huge losses.
African swine fever vaccine is used for healthy pigs from 4 weeks of age and older. After 2-4 weeks of vaccination, pigs are immune to the virus, the immunity lasts at least 5 months.
