Suspension bridge connecting happy shores

The Suoi Nuoc Meo suspension bridge was started on March 1st, and is expected to be completed within 2 weeks, to serve the production and travel of 200 households and students here. However, the weather was unfavorable, with heavy rain lasting for many days, making the construction difficult.

Mr. Nguyen Tran Vy - Head of the Nam Tra My Love Connection Club, the unit connecting the implementing resources, said that the most difficult step in the process of building the bridge was transporting materials. Because the road from the material gathering place to the village was a small, dirt road with many steep sections, the material transport vehicles could not reach the construction site, so most of the materials such as iron, steel, cement, sand, gravel, etc. were carried into the village by the people. The carrying team included not only young men and women, but also women with weak legs and soft arms, each person sharing a task.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chim (village 3, Tra Vinh commune) participated in the transportation and said: "Although the transportation work is hard, everyone here encourages each other to make efforts so that the bridge can be completed soon, helping people feel secure when traveling, and no longer suffer from isolation when the rainy season comes."

At the end of 2024, the two clubs coordinated to implement and complete the Nuoc Buu suspension bridge project (village 4, Tra Cang commune) located on the Nuoc Buu river, passing through Tra Cang commune, adjacent to Tra Tap commune. The bridge is 55m long including the approach road, has a steel structure, concrete pillars, a 1m wide bridge bottom, and is covered with anti-slip steel.

According to Mr. Ngo Tan Lac - Chairman of Tra Cang Commune People's Committee, currently the traffic infrastructure in the commune still has many difficulties, many residential areas are still isolated in the rainy season due to the lack of bridges across streams. Nuoc Buu suspension bridge is a very meaningful project, after completion it will be an important traffic project serving hundreds of households in Xin Xoa and C72 of village 4 of the commune to travel conveniently.

After nearly 5 years of implementation, up to now, there have been 10 bridges jointly built by Nam Tra My Love Connection Club and Pink Wish Club with the lowest construction cost of each bridge being 90 million VND and the highest being 180 million VND.

Ms. Ngo Mai, the head of the Pink Wish Club, said that the club always gives priority to the construction of a suspension bridge for people. Because when completed, the project will have great significance in helping children go to school more safely and people travel more conveniently.

“The club is grateful for all the opportunities to connect, spread, and accompany the construction of dozens of suspension bridges on the mountain like this. The club's destiny is still to connect and build bridges of love,” Ms. Mai shared.

To ensure the construction of the community bridge is on schedule, the two clubs have done a good job of pre-planning and carefully surveying the terrain where the bridge will be built. Volunteers and the commune and village authorities have gone directly to each bridge that has been degraded, damaged or washed away by floods to survey and prepare a budget.

Mr. Nguyen Tran Vy added: “When we connect and get funding, we will immediately provide them with an estimate, without having to spend time on surveys, so the bridge construction will be faster. Then we will outline a priority route, and the bridge with more students and people passing by with high frequency will be prioritized first. There is no greater joy than seeing students and villagers happily walking on the new suspension bridge.”
