"I want to explain the controversial goal last night. As a professional player, I never want to play football in an unfair way," Supachok Sarachat posted on his personal Instagram account. The Thai star received a lot of criticism for his unsportsmanlike behavior in the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final against the Vietnamese team. Even the Thai media and fans had opinions criticizing Supachok's behavior.
Explaining this infamous goal, Supachok asserted that it was all just a misunderstanding. He did not know that it was a situation so he returned the ball to the Vietnamese team and blamed... the referee. According to Supachok, at that time he was upset with the referee, asking to check VAR to give a yellow card to the Vietnamese player but was not allowed.
Vietnam team won AFF Cup 2024 despite Thailand's dirty play.
"I didn't know which team kicked the ball out while questioning the referee to take care of the injured Vietnamese player. Angry at the referee's decision and the emotional atmosphere of the fans, when the match restarted and the ball was passed to my feet, I just kicked it instinctively.
Then suddenly the Vietnamese players ran to complain to me. I tried to explain to everyone that I did not know the situation happened while I was angry with the referee's decision," the number 7 of the Thai team justified.
Supachok stated: "As a professional player, throughout my career, I have never thought of committing unsportsmanlike acts. This happened just as a misunderstanding. Finally, I would like to congratulate the Vietnamese team on their victory and look forward to playing with you again."

Supachok’s explanation seems unreasonable. After this scandalous situation, the referee suggested that the Thai players compensate the Vietnamese team with a goal. However, Supachok and his teammates as well as the head coach of the Thai team did not agree.
"Supachok Sarachat did not break any rules, but from a sporting perspective, he should have returned the ball to his opponent. It was clear that the Vietnamese goalkeeper took the initiative to send the ball out of the field. The 2-1 goal did not change the situation much. However, this increased the anger and excitement of the Vietnamese team," commented Thailand's Siamsports newspaper.
